Are you familiar with Richard C. Cheek, b.May 13, 1832 in Mississippi, d. May 08, 1912 in Cove, AR. ? He married my great grandmother's sister,
Matilda Jane Scott. She was the first white female born in Polk County Arkansas. Richard fought in the Civil War, and is buried at Pleasant Grove
Cemetery in Cove, Polk County, Arkansas. His father, Richard Sr. was supposedly born in NC.

I am also interested in this family, though I don't have anything on Frank.
I have a Jessie Robert CHEEK B. 1859, probably in Tenn. who was living in El
Dorado in 1934. His children were Wm. Ray, Albert Benson, Orzmond A.
(Arzie), Robert Leo, Eula Mable and Ruby Ann Frances CHEEK. I feel like
all the Arkansas CHEEKs are somehow connected.

Hello, looking for the parents and children of a Frank Cheek who married Sarah Edda Jenkins - supposidly a D.A.R.); unknown birth/death dates/places for each, but their son Jesse's census said both parents were born in Arkansas. Surmised from son Jesse's birthdate, this Frank and Sarah were probably born est. 1860-1875ish ...
They had one known son, Jesse Stark Cheek Sr (b. Jun 9, 1895 AR) who in May 1916 married Pansy Cleota Orrell (b. Apr 25, 1898 d. Jan 27, 1998 AR). Jesse Stark Cheek Sr. had a brother 'Lovin Cheek' b. 1891 (his wife: Jewel; daughter: Wanda Cheek m. Fred Collins).
As of the 1930 census, the Jesse Stark Cheek Sr family was living in El Dorado, Union County, Arkansas. They had (at least) a son Jesse S. Cheek Jr (b.Oct 29, 1917 d. Feb 28, 2003 in Jonesboro, Craighead, AR) who married Rosemary "Polly" Griffin on Oct 17, 1939 in Camden, AR.
Jesse Stark Cheek Jr had a son Jesse Stark Cheek III. Please email me w/any info at MITNWVNC(a)aol.com Thanks, Jeff Williams

There are several spellings of our name, depends on location, education and who is writting it down at the time and their education. A lot of people were illiterate previous to and some after 1900. The spellings are Cheek, Cheeke, Cheak, Cheke and so on.Your Grandmother chose the correct and Proper spelling of ouir name.

Maybe you can help me with my worst brick wall. I am looking for the parents of my grandfather. He was:
John Bae Cheak, born Sept 9, 1909 died July 1966
He died at his home in Hagan, Lee County Va. and is buried in the Cedar HIll Cemetary near Flatwoods or Jonesville Va.
I have good reason to believe that his parents were:
James Cheek Born Oct 16, 1861 Died March 3, 1935 and Mary Dixie Hounshell. They are both buried in the Baylor Cemetary, Rose Hill, Va.
My grandmother changed the spelling of the name to "Cheek" after the death of my grandfather. Her sole reason was that "that is what the name is."
The only other info I have is that my grandfather grew up near Rose Hill and had at least 2 brothers, James and Dewtt.
I am wondering if some sort of split occured in the family leading to the name change, was it a simple spelling error or am I on the wrong track.
thanks
