Aunt Harriet (my great aunt) wrote to me on December 13, 1982, and gave me the following information: "John Cheek, son of James A. Cheek and Permelia Hall, joined the Union Army on May 24, 1864 at the age of 13 years, gave his age as 20 years. He enrolled in Co. B, 49th Illinois Infantry. Height 5'3". Records show he enlisted again in the US Army and went to the Indian Wars in the West May 2, 1873. This time he gave his correct age of 22 years. Height 5'8". Don't know when he got out of service." Would love to hear from other descendants of this line.

James A. Cheek and Permelia Hall are my ggg grandparents. I am happy to see someone who also has them as ancestors. My great aunts both wrote to me some years ago and stated that James A. Cheek and Permelia Hall were their great grandparents. We descended through their son, John. They had four children according to my aunts -- America, Marian, and Priscilla. Which of their children is your ancestor?

Have just returned to genealogy after a result burn out (maily due to the Burney Line). My line to Richard is his daughter Elizabeth who married John Burney 1. Elizabeth after the death of her father, then her husband, removed to Georgia. ca 1760. The book "The Burneys from North Carolina" by Pauline Burney Brightman is comprehensive. I have much information from the John Burney1 line on down, but very little on Richard and his wife Jane. Has the Randolph connection ever been proven? Mary

I am looking for info on the names of the parents of Elizabeth Tignor Cheek Lee (1808-1893) who is buried at Shields Cemetery, Cottage Grove, Lane Co., Oregon.
Hi Lynda, I'm not sure if we can be of help to each other. My Cheek line
was in Cape Girardeau Co, MO about 1812, I believe they came from TN or NC.
I have lots of info from both states, but just can't connect to mine.
Another Cheek line was in Smith Co., Tn about that time. Wouldn't it be
great if we could help each other out on this. Hope to hear from you.
