Dear MYRICK - STINSON - TYSON lists and to Esther BLAIR RADCLIFFE,
Hello, I am sending some information immediately below the main message re:
the year 1795 in Moore County, North Carolina and
the will of Cornelius TYSON
and the connections in his family to the MYRICK and STINSON families
that I found on the website of Esther BLAIR RADCLIFFE at the url of
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/2995/tyson.htm
with the will shown further below and in pursuit of information regarding my
family group of MYRICK - PIERCE lineage of my paternal 3rd great
grandparents, William MYRICK, born: abt. 1790, prob. in South Carolina, and
Elizabeth "Bettie" PIERCE, born: 1790 in 96th District, South Carolina. They
had 4 sons that we know of whom were all born between 1814 - 1827, we
believe, in Alabama/Mississippi, were named:
(1.) James MYRICK
(aka Aquilla which appears
to have been his wife's
name or "Quilla" and her
maiden name is believed to
have been BENNETT)
(2.) William Henry MYRICK
(md: Rebecca ? and Mary "Polly" BYRD)
(3.) Jeremiah Pinckney "Pink" MYRICK
(md: Mildred "Milly/Millie" STINSON)
(4.) William H. "Billy" MYRICK
(md: Phoebe Catherine HERRINGTON)
(The above branches mostly settled in
Jones County, (some of which was later
Jasper County,) Mississippi with my
particular branch descended from "Billy"
and Phoebe and living in Simpson Co., MS
later in the 1800s.)
and while looking for more information regarding the possible family groups
connecting to the above I found the following information on the names of
MYRICK and STINSON connected to Cornelius TYSON as I would think it highly
likely that these MYRICK and STINSON names somehow connect to the
aforementioned MYRICK and STINSON names shown above and would like to find
more information about them.
Thank you. Please see the following. I look forward to hearing from anyone
who might help put some more of these pieces together.
Sincerely,
Bellinda Myrick - Barnett

Hi Tina and thank you for posting your questions. I would like to say "don't give up!" I have only one CHEEK that I have found, my great grandmother Susan CHEEK and she married GGrandfather Elijha WHITENER in Bollinger MO. and I can't seem to get past her.. I have allot of CHEEK names that I have found on the computer and when I get into the house and start unpacking( just moved across the United States and the house is not finished yet,UGH!!) so I will be glad to post the CHEEKs that I have found.. Have you checked the archives of this mailing list yet?? Some times there are real gems found there. I also know there are allot of CHEEKs in VA, I just moved from there!!! There is a VA. library on line and maybe some one else on the list will have the address because I can't remember it and EVERY thing is packed and sitting in the moving truck.. I know that this probably not what you wanted in reply but the main thing is please hang in there because when you think all is lost !
someone will post and wow its your family, I know this as being true because a cousin looked at my posts for 3 years before it dawned on her that we were talking about the same relatives, she had info and I only had questions and a couple of dates and a place!!
Keep posting and someone will have what you want, maybe even me..!!?? so I will post as soon as things are unpacked..
Good luck and will talk with you again..

I am trying to prove parentage of Robert Cheek who was born abt 1799. He is listed on the 1850 census, and on the marriage bonds to Martha Sykes and Rebecca Whitlock, but there is no record I can find of his birth or death. Any help appreciated. I have suspected that Robert was the son of Randolph Cheek married to a Miss Green in NC.

My Will Cheeks, I assume was from TN. I have found what I believe to be one of his sons in the 1920 census and it states that his father was from Alabama. I don't know for sure where he was born but I know for a fact that he died in Dayton, TN, and is buried in the Dayton City Cemetery along with 2 or 3 of his small children. All have unmarked graves. The graves use to be marked with simple white crosses but some very uncaring mowers cut those down. There is no record of where the grave is located in the cemetery. I have a general idea, but no proof. I had seen the graves and crosses when I was about 11 or 12 and they were destroyed after that. I have checked at our local library and a few surrounding libraries to get the information that I have and also on the internet. I have hit a brick wall and don't know where or how to continue looking. To the best of my knowledge all the other children are dead, and we were not in close contact with them. ANY HELP WOULD B!

Joel is old friend of mine who was a PFC in the US Army in World War II in Europe. Among the memorabilia of his time in the service, Joel has kept all these years a photograph of a friend of his who was killed in action. The friend's name was Leo Cheek. Joel expressed to me an interest in giving the picture to Leo's relatives, if any could be found. I have offered to try to find that relative. If you are a relative of and have knowledge of this Leo Cheek please contact me at
johnsullivan(a)houston.rr.com . I can arrange to get the photo to you.
All I know about Joel's friend is:
* His name was Leo E. Cheek
* He joined the US Army from the State of Illinois
* He was in the 38th Field Artillery Regiment of the 2nd Infantry Division, US Army
* He was killed in action in the Battle of the Bulge during the time 24 to 31 December, 1944.
* He is buried in the WW II Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, two miles from the village of Henri-Chapelle, Belgium.
If a Cheek family historian is interested, Joel almost certainly has stories concerning Leo Cheek that he would share.
Thank you for taking the time to read my request.
Respectfully,
John Sullivan
