My Cheek line goes back to Spartanburg County, SC. My ggGF
Gasaway Cheek was born there 29 Nov 1811. He and his wife Teresa, two
sons and two daughters are listed in the 1850 Census of Forsyth County,
GA.
I have a report that his father is listed in an old family bible
as John Cheek but I have not seen this nor do I have a copy of it.
Does any of this fit any Cheek data you have?
Best Regards,
John C. Cheek

Hi All ...
I am new to this list. My name is Lori and I am in South Carolina and
researching my husbands family as a hobby. I know that a good bit of
research has been done the SC Cheeks that at one time were in Laurens,SC.
For now, this is an outline of what I consider to be true as gathered from
family sources, bible records and cemetery records.
James Melton Cheek 1826-1875 m. Julia Stone 1833-1886
They resided in Mt Zion/Cunningham area of Spartanburg Co.
They are buried in Mt Zion Bap Church, near Inman, SC.
They had 7 children.
Only these 2 children married w/children, the rest buried at Mt. Zion
Priscilla Cheek 1861-1938 m. James Lowe 1850-1933
and
Barnwell "Barney" Tucker Cheek 1853-1926 m. Victoria Albright
1866-1937
Barney and Victoria had 12 children and raised them in the house at Inman
These children are not in order, spouses last names omitted for privacy).
Roberta m. Harold F.
Lois m. Alvin H.
Harry m. Rose A.
Broadus Earl m. Ersell C.
Elmer m. Carrie S.
Sam Drayton (d.s)
Ora Belle m. Roy M.
Corrie m. Sam S.
Rosalyn (d.s.)
James Esten m. E.L.
Clara Lily m. J. W. (settled to Chattanooga, TN)
Ruby Lucille m. K.E.F. (this is my husbands family)
I am doing my own research into the ancestors of James Melton Cheek. Most
likely it was Willis Drayton Cheek who m. Priscilla SIMS. I have more info
for anyone that wishes to write me back.
I located a family cemetery in Laurens off of Hwy 101. It seems that some
graves that "should" be there according to DAR records and other sources, I
could not find them. If you want to discuss this mystery or can shed light
that would REALLY help me.
Thanks, Lori
