Dear Barbara- I cannot remember if I answered your mail concerning the book
by Jeff Williams.
However, I will tell you that this is the first and most comprehensive
documentation of the cheek clan I have had. My cheek kin is included but very
open ended because I have not been able to connect with the crucial links
that will make a good picture of the cheek family as a whole. No matter but
this does indeed connect me with the WILKES and yadkin can better that I ever
could have done it by myself. I did contribute my part of the cheek history,
including the mason family and grand paw cheek. [there are a couple of PICS
in the book]
I wish I had been able to present a more complete gedcom to Jeff, but I just
have not arrived there yet.
What I like about the book most is that is concentrates on our very own
linage. Most cheek books I have seen just have been picked from local
telephone books and very few names are connected with us.
I would recommend a soft cover and if you like it, go for the hard cover. It
is a beautiful work by Jeff.
please stay in touch.
Sincerely,
tom cheek

Hi Roger-There was also a third line of Cheeks moved to MO unless you can tie my line into one of yours. If you could do that, you will break a brick wall we have all hit on this line. We have Ephraim b 8 Jul 1801 in VA. (Jane Inge as wife is undocumented as far as I know). Children all born in Smith Co., TN. William Harrison, James Riley, Thomas Wesley, Lewis Henderson, Buford, Lucinda, Nancy Jane, John, A. Jackson, Mary Elizabeth and had an Isaac living with them in the census records. Not sure of relationship. Children born from 1822 through1846. Both John and A. Jackson died in the Civil War and never married. My husbands line is Thomas Wesley b. 1826 Smith Co., TN m. Martha Garrison 1849, then moved through Arkansas (where first child was born in 1850, then to Dade Co., MO by 1851 where next child was born. Thomas was killed by raiders on his farm during Civil War. Do any of these names tie into your names? To date we can't find siblings nor parents for Ephraim. Nancy

Roger, I am sorry to say but I haven't gotten any further on my decendents than Matt G. Cheek My GGgrandfather. I am still trying to determine if his father is Ephriam Cheek and who his parents are. A nice lady on this board has a lot more info than I do that is possibly a better source for you. Her name is Nancy. Hopefully she will contact you.

http://www.thepilgrimpresss.homestead.com/homestead.html . Barnes & Noble

Do you know his birth and death date. Try to find the war he would of been in. Then go for his war papers, if he applied for a pension you may get a wealth of information or if his wife applied for a pension....Maybe contact Arlingon Nat Cem.

Re: Shadrack Cheek born in So. ILL. Do you have any info on father, Uncles,
etc. I suspect my 2g-grandfather, Aseur "Asa" S. Cheek my be related to Him
but have not found the connection. Asa is thought to be born about 1805,
place unknown. Speculation of birthplace is ILL or KY.

Leroy M. Cheek was the son of Stephen R. Cheek who was the son of Shadrack Cheek. Leroy was born in Washington County, Illinois in 1849 and died in Okemah, Ok. in 1947. I have 3 daughters listed. Lavina, Mary, Hettie. Stephen's wife was Isabella Davis. Shadrack's wife was Mary Rogers. Will be glad to share any other info that I have. Stephen was my GGGrandfather. Hope this little helps and puts us on the right line. Don't have any other info on Mary Jane Medlin though.
