Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
FYI - I recently purchased the book "The Civil War and Yadkin County, North
Carolina", by Frances H. Casstevens and would also appreciate this
information. I will be glad to do lookups from the book IF you have specific
individuals in mind (not general Surnames). Thanks, Jeff Williams. I will
include Civil War updates on my site at <A

Dear Jeff
Great to see that you have reached the production stage of your research, as
explained previously, with your roots located from the Isle of Wight Cheek's
and basically being USA driven there does not hold any great interest or
help for my Australian CHEEK's from the Taunton, Milverton, Halse &
Wiveliscombe part of Somerset, where my current research now has my direct
family back into the mid 1600's. I have spent the last 3 months trawling
the Parish Registers from microfilms to ensure that my research does not get
coloured by near fits, etc...
Again, may I wish you all the success with your project in hand, best
regards and good wishes

Jeff, I can't thank you enough!!! You have just made my day!!! Not only are
the majority of those HAMPTON's mine, my gggggreat grandparents is on there
(a page of the Wilkes County, NC Marriage Book I scanned and emailed her) !!!
They were the first in the migration of HAMPTON's to MO. I don't know of
anyone who has proof of their marriage and it has been a long disputed fact
of where they were married in MO or NC. Thank you so very much!!! I
genuinely owe you one!!! - Cristy

You absolutely have the best web site I have found on our family. I have
pictures of Robert Eli Gray after the civil war in which he lost a leg and 3
fingers, as well as a picture of Eli G., his older brother that was sent to
me from Dr. Billie Foster in Tyler, Tx. Let's keep in touch! - Marcia Gray

I have nothing on this. Sorry. John

Does any one have the name of Major's second wife and a child(ren)? My
grandfather, John Levi (Lee) Cheek(s) talked about his Father and his Uncle
playing the fiddle and being able to pass the bow between them without
missing a note. This Uncle moved away and was believed to be in North GA
and came to Girard, AL (which is now Phenix City, AL) and they got out the
fiddles and did the same thing as if it were yesterday! I am wondering if
that Cheek married and is the grandfather of Dr. Ben Cheek in Columbus, GA?
Dr. Cheek is the son of Catherine Jarrell Cheek and I have forgotten the
name of her husband that is the Cheek. I am wondering if we are related. My
brother has seen Dr. Ben Cheek and says he bears a striking resemblence to
my Granddaddy Cheek. I would be grateful for any help. Dr. Ben Cheek is
from Butler, GA. Thanks, Barbara

The email address that RootsWeb has for the CHEEK list admin

Hi all! I've been reading everyone's brick wall listings and am hoping this
info is useful to someone!
I received a death certificate for Belle M. (Kirkpatrick) CHEEK. Belle was
married to Jacob CHEEK. Her mother's name was Eliza Jane Crocket, b. in
Sterling, N.Y. Her father's name was John Kirkpatrick, b. in South Carolina.
Looks like Belle was born 3/26/1860 and died 3/3/1941 at age 80 (11mos, 7
days ~ let's say 81!). She was born in Washington Co. Illinois, however, she
died in Randolph Co., Illinois. Belle is buried in Caledonia cemetary in
Sparta, Illinois.
I'm certain Belle is connected to my CHEEK's from Randolph Co. area, but
haven't been able to place her or Jacob CHEEK. Anyone know anything about
this couple?
My other brick wall is still John CHEEK (b. abt 1812 in KY) & Martha "Patsy"
Perdue (b. abt 1815 in KY). I believe John & Patsy were married in Sumner
Cty, TN around 1837. Anyone know anything about this couple?
Happy Hunting!

I have copies of the Final Dawes Rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes -
Choctaw, Cherokee, Seminole, Chickasaw and Creek, and will be glad to do
lookups for those researching their Native American Cheek lines. I will
need full and complete names and approx. year of birth, if known. It would
also be helpful if there is a family story about which tribe your ancestor
belonged to. Requests for surname lookups only will be ignored. The Dawes
Rolls only covers those who removed to Oklahoma and were there in 1898.
