Craig,
Richard Marcellous Cheatham is my great grandfather. The picture that you are referring to is the only one that I have ever seen. If you happen upon more, I would love to know. I do have pictures of his son, Thomas Marcellous Cheatham and his Cheatham family. Thomas is my grandfather. You may contact me at timegoby(a)aol.com.
Are we cousins? I noticed some Marshalls in Lucille Moseleys's book.
Sandra Cheatham Nelson

Marie (Mittelstaedt) Cheatham, wife of Thomas Cheatham, is a missing link in my family. She "disappeared" in 1954 and I have located her death on January 1, 1985 in Spencer, Oklahoma. I am trying to learn if she had any children and if there are any relatives out there that are familiar with Thomas and Marie. Thank you!

I'm not aware of a connection to any Cheathams in North Carolina but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Do you know anything about your great-grandfather? Is it possible he was from Virginia? As you may already know, the Cheatham name came to America from England through Thomas Cheatham in the 18th century. I haven't been able to determine if the Black Cheathams are blood descendents or a case of slaves adopting the master's name. I also come across American Indians with the name. In any case, my great grandfather Marcellus is as far back as I've been able to trace.

Hello,
I am an African-American Cheatham born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. My grandfather Hullie Cheatham and father James were from Oxford, North Carolina. I have information that may very well be a link if you have a connection with Cheathams of Granville-Vance county North Carolina.
