Requesting any slave records/documents/information concerning slaves owned by the Henry Clay Cheatham family of Hempstead County, Arkansas from 1844 thru emancipation. Oral family history states that my ggrandfather "Monroe" (b. 1844) was a slave owned by this Cheatham family and according to the 1860 slave census a 16 year old male slave was part of the families slaveholdings. I strongly suspect this 16 year old to be my ggrandfather. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
