I am looking for information on Frank E Cheatham. He was my grandfather born in 1879-might have been in OHIO. He married Anna Bock in 1906 in Champaign Illinois and they moved to Texas at some point. The children were RICHARD, HELEN, GENE, JACK, ROBERT, FRANK and CATHERINE. They lived in the city of Houston and Conroe. He died in 1949. I am trying to find info about his parents. His grave marker also says " OHIO"
" COOK 3 CAV"
I take this to mean he was in the 3rd cavalry? I'm not sure. Any info would be appreciated.

Dear Brenda,
You are very welcome. Wish I had even more info to share. The best things are often found while looking for something else! I am sure one day soon we will find soemthing on their deaths. I checked the vital records office online for Arkansas and no old enough records on there. I am not very familiar with what records Arkansas has except for the usual. Must be something there if not in death records, perhaps court orders, etc.
Anyway one day we will know I am sure.
God bless,
Beth

Hi Brenda,
I did not mean that all of the kids she had by the time of the Georgia land lottery were her siblings. Just David, David was only 8 years younger than her.
I believe that Franklin already born by that time was indeed of course her illegitimate child and I don't recall saying anything else to the contrary.I have put together quite a few genealogical mysteries and believe this one makes the most sense. And all the others born and yet to be were her illegitmate children.
Edward Hill Cogbill was positively her brother and came down to help her I believe. I do a great amount of genealogy research on many families and have done alot on this one and one has to use logic. Yes I believe she had several illegitimate children and that is probably why she left Virginia. I highly doubt that she had David B. at 8 years of age. And he was listed as her sibling in the court records.
Also the names Thomas and James were family names not only does she have a son named Thomas(which would be her father and grandfather's name) and one named James but so do some of her children.
The earliest I ever heard if a girl giving birth was age 9 in Ecuador many years ago but she was almost 10.
Anyway it is just my version and using logic it makes sense. Also have been in touch with a few other Cogbills in the last few years and they seem to agree.
Perhaps the state of Arkansas or their archives would have a death record for David B. and/or Phebe.
God bless,
Beth

HI everyone,
It is nice to get your post about Phoebe and David. Beth, one thing bothers me about your theory. Why would Phoebe be allowed to take siblings to GA and list them as illegitimate and why would Edward return to VA without them? My thoughts were that David belonged to Phoebe and she had been outcast by her family. Edward being male was sent to GA to get her established. Once that happened he returned home to VA. However, Phoebe moved on. I live only a few miles from the Cogbill family cemetary in Star City, AR. We have not been able to locate Phoebe or David. However, my grandmother once told me David was burried there. I know that his wife and some of his children are burried there. I'lll keep searching!
Thanks,
Brenda Cogbill McGee

Hi,
Yes by 1850 alot of the cogbills we are discussing were in Arkansas. However Phebe and David B. Cogbill were both born in Virginia. And I am sure that they are who they seem to be . As you may also notice alot of Phebe's children were born in Georgia and Alabama.
God bless,
Beth

The Confederate records show a good many Cogbills that served in the Confederate Army from Arkansas. This explains where they came from.
You may be interested to know that I have one of the swords that belonged to Capt. William W.T.Cogbill who was a Captain in the 14th VA. Infantry under Gen. Lewis Armistead. He was killed in action at Gettysburg in Pickett's Charge.

Hi Brenda and all,
Yes I was the one who thought of Anner P. being perhaps Anner Phebe Cogbill. Anner P.'s parents were Thomas cogbill and Lucy boisseau, Lucy was a sister to my direct ancestors Susanna Boisseau and Benjamin Boisseau.
I have done alot of research on the Cogbills at the Library of Va.
The reasons I thought Anner P.' may be Phebe are as follows:
1. She was born in Va. about 1805 and that fits in with Anner P.
2. No record of any marriage in Va. for Anner P. Cogbill at all.
3. Edward HillCogbill was a brother to Anner P.
4. Anner P.' disappears from Va. and Phebe in Ga. in 1827 for ther land lottery, Edward Hill Cogbill with her.
Edward eventually returned to Va. and married catherine Elizabeth Cole.
Now with Phebe for a time and living next to her by 1850 inDrew county Arkansas is David B. Cogbill some have said to me that they think he is her son as well, but since he was only 8 years younger than her and because she had a brother David B. Cogbill who also disappears from Va. I truly believe that this is the same David B. Cogbill who is also a child of Lucy Boisseau and thomas Cogbill.
I found in old Chesterfield County, Va. court records several years ago a listing of all of Thomas and Lucy's children.
I have been able to trace several of the lines of their other children. However all roads for David B. and Anner P. end as far as Va. is concerned, at this point there is no doubt in my midn that Anner P. is Phebe and that David Buchanan is her brother. And that she never married. But indeed had many illegitimate children.
However I would like to see a death record for she or David B. to verify.
Thank you.

Hello Amanda, Your great grandfather was Jesse Cheatham, who was my grandfather. We have been trying to find anyone from the Cheatham side of the family. I didn't know until recently that Luther existed. Jesse was married to Maud Bass. They had three daughters. Millie, Mary Lee, Ette Chiffon, [ my mother], and one son, John Henry. She died and he married Celinas Poare. They had Luther and I don't know of any more. If you are interested in exchanging information e mail me at <wren33(a)mcmsys.com>. Is your father still alive? He would be my first cousin. I have 6 sisters. Hope to hear from you.Billie Redding
H.L.W. Cheatham was Hugh Lawson White Cheatham (1841-1917) who was the son of
Richard Cheatham & Susan Saunders. Hugh's older brother was Edward Saunders
Cheatham, for whom Cheatham Co. Tn. was named after. Hugh's wife was Susan
"Sue" C. GRIMES, dau. of James T. Grimes, b. 23 Dec. 1847 (no death date
available). Susan must be the sister of Ida H. Harding (1860-1914), who you
identify as the wife of John Henry Harding and dau. of James Grimes & Frances
Gatewood. That might explain why HLW & Susan (Grimes) Cheatham are buried in
the Harding plot. Let me know if you think this makes sense - Bill Cheatham
