Bill,
I would like to have any detailed info that you have. I have Family Tree
Maker and if you do also you could send me a genealogy report via email
which would be easier for you. I have the children and grandchildren of
Hixie Elizabeth Cheatham and James Edmond Lee if you need that. Do you have
any idea where Hixie got her name? We in the family have it as Hixie, but
some say it should be Hexie. I was glad to see that you had Hixie, but just
am wondering where it could have come from. Thanks so much for the
information you sent,
Janet
PS We live in Longview, Texas, do you live in Texas?

Surname: cheatham
-------------------------
Your Josiah Cheatham was a brother to a Robert B. Cheatham, my gggrandfather.
Josiah died in Monette, Arkansas. He is buried in an unmarked grave, the
best I can find. He married a Martha Davis, I believe. I have some of their
records in my Family tree program. If you would like, contact me and I
will email them.
I have started putting my branch of the Cheatham family on the Internet at

Navigate the site by clicking on the :

This is a test of some software I am considering purchasing so we can have a Cheatham web site.
I would like to see everyone check it out and let me know what you think.

Dusti:
I got your post to "cheatham-l(a)rootsweb.com" regarding Robert Cheatham. I'm
not sure if we've corresponded previously, but your "catsmeow" does sound
familiar. Anyway, yes, I do believe that there was likely another generation
between Jonathan Cheatham & Robert Cheatham (m. Frances Puckett). Robert's
oldest child seems to have been Mary Cheatham who was born between 1767 &
1771. If you estimate that Robert was probably around 22-25 when he married
Frances Puckett, that would place his birth around 1742-45. However,
Lunenburg Co. Va. court records show that Thomas Barlow sued Robert Cheatham
in 1762. Assuming that Robert was 21 at that time, that would push his birth
back to around 1740 or even the late 1730's. Since Jonathan Cheatham was
probably born in the 1680's, Robert would have most likely been too young to
have been his son, but it does seem likely that he was his grandson.
Jonathan Cheatham appears to have had sons Jonathan (Jr.), Edward, Peter &
Archibald "Archer" Cheatham. They were all probably born in the 1710's or
1720's, so it seems likely that one of them was the father of Robert
Cheatham. Robert Cheatham's name appears in the tax records of Lunenburg Co.
Va. in 1769, 1772, 1773, 1774, 1775 & 1776. Robert purchased land in Halifax
Co. Va. in 1778 and by 1800 his name appears in the records of Abbeville Co.
S.C.
I'm currently showing Robert as a son of Jonathan Cheatham's son Jonathan
Jr., but this is speculation on my part. Considering that Robert named a son
Peter, it's also possible that his father might have been Jonathan's possible
son Peter, whose name appears in the 1745 tax records of Amelia Co. Va.
Right now there's just not enough proof available to say for sure who
Robert's father was.
I hope the above helps a little. I'd love to hear what information you've
found on these families. Best regards,
Bill Cheatham

Good Afternoon,
I'm a descendant of Robert and Frances Puckett Cheatham. Does
anyone have knowledge of Robert's parents? I have Jonathan
and Betheny Cheatham but it seems too wide an age gap. Could
there be a generation (or two) missing? Is anyone else tracing
this family? I have some information and am always willing
to share what I have.
Thank you for your time.

It's easy to forget how to respond to the GenConnect board posts that are
