Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
James M. Chatham (1828-1865, of Forsyth co, GA) was son of Chaffin
Chatham and Mary Payne. I have been given that his middle name was MONROE
and that he was killed in the Civil War, 2 Mar 1865. Seeking proof for his
middle name and death occurrence.

There was one Cheatham who applied for the Miller Cherokee Roll, but was
rejected. His name was Gabe Jerry Cheatham of Texas. I assume some are
on the accepted roll, but I do not have it. There were many people
falsely rejected. Their applications, rejected or not, state their
ancestry and why they feel they were of Cherokee descent.
The table of contents of a new academic study of the roll is at
http://members.aol.com/rarebk
The site also has on-line the surname index of "Starr's Old Cherokee
Families and Their Genealogy," a Cherokee Genealogy Tutorial which is a
great primer on how to do effective Indian genealogy research, the 1835
Cherokee census which is within the tutorial, other indexes, and two
different Native American CDs which appear to contain huge amounts of
Native American genealogical material.
But, no Cheathams were found in the book - but many other surnames were.
Very fascinating.

I am searching for George Cheatham of Knox Co. Tennesee, he married Malinda
Mayfield in 1825, He married Eliza Bunch in 1837, He married Mathursa Mayfield
in 1851. I believe his brother Joseph and sister Nancy also lived in Knox
Co. Do you have any information on this line? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone,
For November's roll call project, I would like to give you the URLs to our
GenConnect message boards, and ask you to gather family information to post
to the boards.
I'll also include a couple of pointers on how to better utilize the boards.
Since the Rootsweb "gateway" system was put into place last April, posts to
each of the seven boards are now automatically forwarded to our mailing list.
The system has proven successful and use of the boards continues to increase.
There are seven boards -- one for QUERIES, and six for DOCUMENTS.

Queries:
For all Queries -- even though it may refer to one of the other
subjects.
Bible Records:
Copy the names and dates exactly as they appear in your family Bible.
Give the date the Bible was published, and also its current
owner/location.
Biographies:
Bios can be an informal narrative you've written of someone's life.
It can be a passage of a printed text -- be sure to cite your sources.
Deeds:
Deeds, land exchanges, or land grant records.
Transcribe the text and tell where the record can be located.
Obituaries:
Transcribe newspaper death notices.
Give the name of the newspaper and date of the article.
Pensions:
Military pensions records. I've found various war records at the
National Archives. Many include pension information.
Wills:
Transcribe wills verbatim and tell where the record can be located.
As you can see, the more we use the GenConnect boards, the more valuable a
research source they will become. Post your information directly to the
boards, and within seconds the post will also appear on our mailing list.
One last point -- Since posts to the boards will be seen by a wider circle of
family researchers, you may get responses from people who are not on our
mailing list. To be sure that everyone sees the resulting discussions,
you'll need to be sure you respond to the board.
Good Luck!
LaRae
