Hi Listers.
Could someone have a look at the 1881 census for
Bermondsey or the London area for a John Chaplin, who would have been about
13, and his mother, Jane, who would be about 58.
Regards Paul

Pat and others on this list:
I saw your ELIZABETH GREEN Dawson and your SAMUEL & your CHEATHAM names and
thought these seem mighty familiar, though not exactly the same. But it's
VERY possible mine were named after yours:

married Matilda Secrest 7 Dec. 1818 in Williamson Co. TN. Passed on to heaven
26 Oct. 1837 from Williamson Co. TN--Probably a Farmer and maybe Baptist
29. Matilda SECREST, b. 21 Feb. 1800.in Maury Co. TN. Passed on to heaven 18

Farm, CHILDREN: Samuel Cheatham,
It's been suggested to me that a SAMUEL CHEATHAM might've been my Mary's dad
and Samuel's grandpa. Does anyone here have more info. on that?
My line is this above Mary CHEATHAM, b. 12 Oct 1777 in VA who married
Nathaniel B. Smithson 30 Mar 1799 in LAunenburg Co. VA and then her son,
Samuel Cheatham Smithson/Nathaniel Green Smithson/Annie Lou Smithson etc.
Thanks for any help!
Elise
In response to October Roll-Call:
Elizabeth Green m(1) ca 1733 Thomas Dawson. This marriage produced two
children: Samuel Dawson (b. 5 Jan 1733/34) and Mary Dawson (b. Mar 1740).
Then she m(2) Leonard Cheatham, with whom she produced an additional eight
children: Leonard, Edward, James, Abraham, Phebe, Elizabeth, Nancy and
Tabitha.
Thomas Dawson was listed as "of Amelia" when he m. Martha Jones in Brunswick
Co. 16 Jan 1756. He is named as a son in the will of Elizabeth, dtd 10 Feb
1799 & probated 10 Mar 1800 (Will Book #4, Mecklenburg Col, VA, p. 170). The
wills of this Leonard and Elizabeth Cheatham are in Mecklenburg Co, VA.
I would love to learn the marriage data of Leonard and Elizabeth, as well as
Elizabeth's birth data.
Pat
Hello everyone,
October's roll call will focus on just one generation of your CHEATHAM
family. It will be a twofold project, including data and also a bit of
'color.'
1. Select one family -- husband, wife, and children -- and give whatever
birth, marriage, or death dates and locations you may have for each one of
them.
The second step is optional, but I hope you'll find it interesting.
2. Share with us what you have learned about this family...have there been
any stories passed down through the generations? You may choose one family
member to feature, or the family in general. Has your research turned up
clues to their daily lives? How were they affected by wars, the weather, or
by the frequent and sometimes deadly epidemics? Did they live their entire
lives on the same land where their parents lived, or did they join others in
search of a better life elsewhere?
This Roll Call is for the full month of October, so take your time and post
when you're ready, but I do hope that each of you will participate. We all
collect and record the names, dates, and places for our families, but the
stories give them life!
Don't forget to replace the subject line with the name of the head of
household of the family you choose -- no one wants to see a mailbox full of
'roll call'!
I will leave you with a thought to ponder...a hundred years from now, what
will be the stories told about YOU? [gasp!]
