3. Elizabeth b. 1888. Mine had Bessie by William Wilks.
4. Lonnie b. 1891.
Received an email that Alexander may have spent time in prison maybe in Horry Co. There was an Alexander about his age that did go to jail
Sarah had a stroke abt. 1915. and ended up in Robeson Co NC. with a Hatcher nephew where she died in 1917.
Could not find Alexander Chavis on a census for 1880. But the 1900 census says Sarah FRANCIS had abt. 8 children. Sarah was always called Francis.
Thanks for any help

I have also done research on the Chavis name, it seems the most likely area for the Chavis' of Marlboro County, SC, and other areas near the PeeDee River, to have come from is the area near Aberdeen Scotland. They were working craftmen, the kind that would have come over as indentured servants, spelled Cheves, one of the main streets of Florence SC. is Cheves St. Also, in VA, in the 1660s the Governor, decided that any captured Indian Slaves that would be baptized and take "Christian" names would have to be freed, any slave from the above area that had worked with an indentured servant that had treated them well would have taken this name as a way of being released to go home, and would have told their kin to take this name as a way to not be taken into slavery again
