Hey there,
Does anyone know exactly where Kaleb Chavis is from in South Carolina???? He most likely was born in the early to mid 1800's and was said to be native american/cherokee. He was married to a black women named Tena Johnson and had numerous kids. Some of the names I remember are Charles, Benjamin, Thomas, & Lucile. Charles H. Chavis Sr.(1879-1953) was my g-grandfather and was married to Mary Whaley(1898-1972. Thomas (1884-1941)was married to Martha Haigler. Kaleb's children were all most likely born in the Orangeburg/Calhoun county areas.

My question is regarding a William or Wiley Evans from NC b.1800. His father was from Virginia b @ 1760. The family left NC @ 1830 and settled in Pike Co, Indiana. Wiley and Sarah show up in census 1840-50, a boy Joseph W. Evans b.1838. There was Hinton Evans,William,William W.,James also Matilda Evans and Isaac Griffith. They were all from NC. I believe they are connected to Barnabas Evans.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Pat
