Most of the correspondence in this section deals with Thomas Gleaton and Mariah Chavis...but does anyone have info on another Mariah Chavis who would have married an Isham Ashe in Goodland community (Springfield) of Orangeburg, SC. She would have been born in the early 1800's. Supposedly her parents are James (Jim) and Rebecca.

I have the picture as well. Mary's parents were Patrick Chavis and Elizabeth West. I would be glad to share all my information with you but too voluminous for here. Although most my info goes from John Rias and Mary Matilda to John F Ash, to Bertha Ash Barr, to McCoy Barr to my Mom and may not help you. Send me an email or other means of contacting you and we'll compare what we have. My email is winddreamer6(a)aol.com.

Yes, this is the same family, I didn't have any info on Mary's parents. Do you have additional info on them? Did I mention that I have a picture of Mary, John Rias and their children & grandchildren from 1894. Mary is Indian but none of the children favor her. Where does that come in?

The Beaver Creek is a GROUP OF PEOPLE in Salley, SC, which I believe is in Aiken County. If they have filed anything, it is news to everyone in South Carolina. They spilt up a few years ago and now there are many so called indian groups in Orangeburg and Aiken Counties. They do not descend from the Pee Dee or Catawba. There is no need in trying to argue what I know, and no need to be defensive. What happened with these people are a genealogist's nightmare. Stealing genealogy from the McColl Pee Dee's, stealing from each other, etc.

Can you please share your info with me? I am looking for information on my gg grandfather, John Rias Ash, who is belived to be a brother of Hazran. Supposedly John married a Matilda Mary Chavis also of the Beaver Creek Indians. And I also think John's mother was a Mariah Chavis. I'd love to know the info you have and if there is a book, I'd love to have one.
Any info apreciated.

The Beaver Creek Indians have aplied for national status as a tribe but have yet to be granted "official" status. Their chief is Louis Chavis from Salley, SC. Check out their website at http://www.sciway.net/hist/indians/beaver-creek-indians.html.
But they are probably decended from the Pee Dee or Catawba tribes.
Supposedly Matilda Mary Chavis was from this tribe and married John Rias Ash. However, I can't trace either of them any further back. But I'm just starting my search and am relatively new at this. They would be my gg grandparents.

There is no such thing as a beaver creek indian in South Carolina. Never has been. However, I may be able to help you figure out Matilda's true background if you want.
