Message Board Post:
Does anyone know for sure which tribe the Chavis people descend from? I have been told so many things that I no longer know what to believe. It seems there are Chavis' in the Pee Dee tribes, the Lumbee tribe, and the Tuscarora tribe. I have seen where Ismael Chavis was a Pee Dee chief. If this is fact, then how did the Chavis' end up in other tribes? I have also been told that the Pee Dee are Creek people, but I find no Chavis' in any Creek rolls. So, if the Pee Dee are Creek, and the Chavis' are Pee Dee..........why are they not on the Creek rolls????
Help!!
Thanks, Patsy

Hi Misty and other Chavis',
Update on my Chavis ancestry, for which I still search the roots of:
Great Grandfather: William Cicero Chavis
(very tall man, very curly hair, blue eyes)
His Kids: Mallie Chavis, Homer (Bud) Chavis, Ola and my grandmother, Willa Chavis (the youngest), she was only two months old when he died, not two years. Since she was born in 1898, then the father would have died that year as well. This occurred in Springfield, MO, not greenfield, MO. I hope this information will serve to correct any previous erroneous information that I've posted in my attempt to locate my Chavis roots.
Sincerely,
Donna Preston

I descend from James "Jim" Chavis and Rebecca M. Williams. I have been told that I belong to the Pee Dee Nation, the Creek nation, the Lumbee nation, and the Tuscarora nation. I seem to find Chavis in each of these nations except the Muskogee Creek. Which nation were the "original" Chavis' from? Which nation do I truly belong to? I know that I am Inidan, but I seem to be an Indian looking for a tribe!
