Cousin Anne, I wrote to you about Berry awhile ago. I found out in March, from my cousin Christy Becton, remember Christy? that Berry was indeed a Member of the Beaver Creek Band of PeeDee Indians. Also, I was recently told that Mary Jane's paternal grandmother may have been a Chavis as well. If that is true, then both of Mary Jane's grandmothers were Chavis and Native American. Mary Jane's parents were: Hazran A. Ashe and Georgianna Chavis Pou. He is buried in Augusta, and she is buried in Emanuel, GA. I hope that this helps you. Please let me know if you happen to find that book. It sounds interesting. Rach

Hello. I realize that this message is about a year late but I couldn't resist writing back on this.My husband is Clyde Chavis Jr. born to James Clyde Chavis. James Clyde is one of five children born to Micheal Chavis. Micheal Chavis is Berry Chavis' son. We always believed that Berry had been adopted. But if he was a true Chavis then that changes everything we ever thought. We all know how stories get twisted around. Berry married Mary Jane Ashe. According to stories, Mary Jane was a full blooded Cherokee.I want to start a history but havent quite got started yet. That is what we know so far. We live in Vidalia, Ga. If you have any info or need more info, you can e-mail me at sueq0306(a)aol.com. If anyone else wants to help us don't hesitate to write!

My husband is a grandson of Hilly and Betty Chavis. We are searching for info on Betty. I believe her maiden name was Dunn. Does anyone have a clue as to when and where she was born? She died in 1962 and is buried at Grand Island Cemetery in Eustis, FL. Any info will be appreciated. We are desperate!!! Thanks.
