Hello My fathers name is Lawrence Chavis Sr. His biological father and my grandfather is named Ollie Chavis from Opelousas LA. I am trying to find him or trace his roots back. If I can halep you or you can help me I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Just sharing some notes was putting in files today.
A cousin had told me our Abraham CHAVOUS purchased land in Richmond Co.
GA from Cecile PICQUET CARR. I believe the title was transferred in this
way: John WARD to Antoine PICQUET. Antoine Picquet to Cecile PICQUET
CARR. Cecile Picquet Carr to Abraham CHAVOUS. I do not know how these
Picquet are related to Benjamin PICQUET, a merchant of Augusta GA who
married in 1816 (Edgefield Co. SC).
On the 1840 Richmond Co. census there is a John CHAVERS, p.305, line 14.

The Mitchell family arrived in the "Pond" settlement, just north of the saline River, either with or just after the Taborn family, the first settlers, shortly after the War of 1812. The Chavis family owned land in the area by 1854. The Blackwell family arrived before the civil War. Every one of these families intermarried with the Taborn/Cole family, to the point that almost evryone is multiply related to everyone else. I have first cousins who are also my third and fifth cousins.
I don't have the names you submitted in my listing, but the presence of Chavis, Mitchell and Blackwell families at the Pond would make it likely that they ar related to my line. I have cousins in all those and about 15 other Pond families. Elmertie Chavis, married Wm. Edgar Taborn, was my grandmother. She had a brother named John and I have a Wm B. Chavis, but none fit the earlier time period of your greatgrandparents.
please contact me directly for more information.

My Chavis line ended up in southern IL also. Ida Mae Chavis Davis (1903-1933) was my grandmother. Her parents were John E. Chavis & Annie Blackwell. John's parents were William O. Chavis & Telitha Mitchell. These Chavis's were all over the place from Saline to Union to Williamson and Pope Co. I'm wondering if our lines connect. I would be interested in comparing notes.
Carol: I e-mailed you sometime ago but never heard again. I am in contact with a lot of your relatives here in South Carolina. Some of your cousins are Raymond and Jerry Chavis. Please respond.
Chief John Barry Chavis
