Hi: Your NM connections and the indication that the CHAVEZ family may have had a ranch and/or property near Ysleta TX (Ysleta TX, near El Paso TX, is named after Isleta NM and many NM families settled there).....MIGHT indicate this family as connected to the large NM CHAVEZ family.
After the NM Pueblo Indian Revolt of 1680, the NM residents that were able to get out alive mostly fled to the El Paso TX area (El Paso del Norte). It is known that some of these CHAVEZ folks did not return to NM (in 1693 w. DeVargas) and some remained somewhere in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico.
?? Do you have any more info about the possible location in Chihuahua of the CHAVEZ ranch south of El Paso TX ??
My mother's family is from Chihuahua and having researched her family history there, it is often much more difficult to trace families in Chihuahua than in NM (and AZ). I do know that some of the early records for the state of Chihuahua ended up at Parral, Chi., MX (instead of the state capital at Chihuahua (CIty), Chi., MX). You might also try the LDS (Mormon) genealogy webiste (www.familysearch.org) - the Mormon's have/had an agreement w. the government of Mexico to archive some of the records (and there is a LOT of geneal. data on the Mormon website).
PLEASE keep us posted on the info you gather on your CHAVEZ family; many of us have extensive genealogy (many back to early 1500s, as mine) and some, as I am, are interested in more about the Chihuahua branch of the NM CHAVEZ family.

I am looking for information regarding my great-grandfather and great-grandmother Aparacio (Patricio?) Chavez and Juliana (Julia) Moralez Chavez. She was born 2/16/1879 in Chihuahua, Mexico. Her parents were Tranquilino Moralez and Juanita Alvidrez. Aparacio and Juliana Chavez were married approx. 1892 in Santa Rosalia, MX, Chihuahua, MX. They had five children; Antonio, Ramon, Jose-Maria, Patricia, Antonia. We do know that some of the children were born in NM. Juliana (Julia) and the five children eventually ended up in Clifton, AZ during the turn of the century until the 1920's. They then moved to CA. Not sure what happened to Aparacio (Patricio). My grandmother who was married to Jose-Maria always told us that Patricio was a constable in a town along the NM/TX border. We seem to remember her saying it was Ysleta, TX. She also told us that the Chavez family owned a large ranch in Mexico, south of El Paso and that they raised horses.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

My father (Leo Chavez) left home when he was about 11 years old. I only know my grand father's name may have been Joseph. My dad didn't speak much about his side of the family. Did Joseph have a wife (or have children with) someone named Margarita? My father's family lived Albuquerque, New Mexico, and possible Santa Fe. My father listed his uncle as Fidel Salazar on his Army records. I don't have much information besides his social security application and Army records.

Chaevs/z Primos-
Many years ago, under the auspices of our beloved Fray Angélico Chavez, a group called the Sons of San Fernando Rey, held annual Chavez/s family reunions in New Mexico. Unfortunately, as the planners died off, the reunions became extinct in New Mexico. Now, inspired by the Arizona Chavez Reunions, a group of Chavez/s's here in New Mexico are going to begin planning the next New Mexico Chaves/z reunion. I am inviting any Chavez/s' to come join us!
We are having a matanza in Belen, New Mexico this coming Sunday, January 18,and we will be starting to work towards rounding up all New Mexico Chavez/s family for a reunion in 2005.
Come join us! Email me for details. If you are interested in being put on our New Mexico Chavez/s Family Reunion email list, contact me. We hope to have a New Mexico Chaves/z family website up soon and I will advise this list when that happens.
¡Saludos todos mis primos!
