Juanita S. Chavez, age 102, a lifelong resident of New Mexico died June 19, 2003. Survivors include her daughters, Josephine Chavez of Carrizozo, Teresa Chavez of Albuquerque, Agnes Dotson and husband, Keith of Corrales; sons, Mariano S. Chavez and wife, Lucy of Santa Fe, Godfrey S. Chavez of Tularosa, Richard S. Chavez and wife Charlotte of Chula Vista, CA, Frank S. Chavez and wife, Lorrane of Albuquerque, Conrad S. Chavez and wife, Sue of Checotha, OK; daughter-in-law, Mary Chavez of Carrizozo; 29 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Federico in 1969 and her son, Fred in 1972. Juanita was the Democratic Precinct Chairperson in Lincoln County for many years. Viewing and Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 23, 2003 with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary. Pete A. (Pedro) Chavez July 4, 1930 - September 5, 2003 Pete A. Chavez, 73, died in California where he resided for the past 35 years. Pete is survived by his wife, Lucy Andrade Chavez; sons, Martin and Pete Jr.; daughter, Gina Chavez Almeyda; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandsons; a sister, Virginia Lujan; and several nieces and nephews. Pete was born in Valencia, New Mexico. He attended Albuquerque High School. He enjoyed telling jokes, hunting, and playing music. An accomplished musician, he played several instruments and performed with several local groups during the 1950s. During this time he married and started a family. He initially worked for Whitmer Mills as a lumberjack and later as a machinist at ACF. He served in the US Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict. In 1968, he moved his wife and daughter to California. He worked as a machinist in the aerospace industry and as a musical instrument repairman for the Los Angeles Unified School District. In!
his retirement, Pete enjoyed playing video casino games and cards and became a Tai Chi instructor. Mildred E. Chavez, age 58, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and companion was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Sunday, September 14, 2003. Mildred was life long resident of Bernalillo, NM. Mildred is survived by her loving sons, Jimmy Chavez and wife Kimberly and Robert Chavez and wife Jennifer; two precious grandchildren, Domonique and Nathaniel Chavez; her companion, Lonnie Gutierrez; sister, Dolores Gomez; brothers, Eddie Torres, Jr. and wife Viola, Charles Torres and wife Lorraine, Randy Torres, Sr., and wife Emma; and many other relatives and friends. I am searching for my grandfather's parents. His name is Herculano Chavez, but was listed under his stepfather's name of Hidalgo in one census in New Mexico. His mother's name is Maria de Jesus Ballina and her father and mother were Santiago Ballina and Josefa Marquez. Herculano was born in Manzano, New Mexico in Nov. of 1860. Maria de Jesus Ballina married Jose Tomas Sanchez and then Guadalupe Hidalgo. Maria was born in 1836 in New Mexico, possibly Tome, Valencia County. She lived in Las Vegas, in 1881 and she was listed as Maria Padia. any infor will help.
