Francisca Eduviges Machado married Mariano de la Luz Tapia in October 1869 at
San Gabriel Mission.
Mariano died in December 1869.
In August 15, 1870, Eduviges (or Edith) gave birth to Luz Tapia.
Some time between 1870 and 1874, Francisca Eduviges Machado Tapia married Jose
Garcia (b. abt. 1855).
In the 1880 Los Angeles County census, the oldest child in the household is Luz
Tapia. The next-oldest child in the household is Vicente Garcia, born about
1875.
I haven't found Luz Tapia in the 1900 census, but we'll have to assume that she
was married to Mr. Chavez in 1900, so there would be no information regarding
the first two husbands of Luz Tapia.
In the 1910 census she is married to Martiano Chavez who was born about 1841 -
nearly 30 years her senior.
The census states that Luz had 11 children and that they all lived.
Luz and Martiano have been married for 12 years.
The children in the Chavez houshold are:
Jose Chavez age 11
Isabel Chavez age 9
Isadorio Chavez age 7
Santos Chaves age 6
Inez Chavez age 2
Martiano Chavez age 1
AND . . .
Louisa GARCIA (step-dau) age 23
Raphael GARCIA (step-son) age 20
Fidel SEPULVEDA (step-son) age 18
Juan SEPULVEDA (step-son) age 14
This is the THIRD marriage for Luz Chavez. Does Luz sound familiar to anyone?
Does anyone know to whom Luz might have been married? Which Sepulveda and
perhaps which Garcia?
In the 1910 census Luz and Martiano are living on Rowena Ave - no street
address. This is in the old 'Ivanhoe' area of Los Angeles - south of Los Feliz
Blvd.
