I am looking for any information on Concepcion Chavez. She married Marcos Martinez ca. 1910, they had two children Maria Martinez (married Barreras) and Terecita Martinez (married Barreras). Marcos Martinez, s/o Miguel Martinez of San Marcial, died in the War. She then married his brother Juan Albino Martinez. The had Mike C. Martinez, Clara Martinez (married Armijo), Marcos Martinez, and Ninfa Martinez (married Baca).
Concepcion died about 1931...would like to know the circumstances surrounding her death, also need her parents information or siblings...Have been told that her father was a Dreiffus (Sic) from the San Antonio area and that he was orphaned and raised by his sister who married a Chavez...Have no proof, but I do have a picture of Concepcion and it looks as if she had blue eyes and dark hair..please contact me if you have any informatin on any of these people...They lived in San Marcial before and after her death. But I do not know where they were when she died..

In Loving Memory of
IGNACIO CHAVEZ & ISABEL CHAVEZ
Died August 6, 1997 DIED JULY 8, 1977
MAMA, IT HAS BEEN 21 YEARS, AND NOW ONE YEAR TODAY FOR DADDY SINCE YOU BOTH LEFT US. WE MISS YOU BOTH AS MUCH AS ON THAT DAY WHEN THE HEAVENS OPENED UP AND LIFTED YOU BOTH HOME TO THE LORD. NOW, YOU ARE TOGETHER ONCE AGAIN.
YOU'VE LEFT US AND EVERYTHING IS CHANGED
LIFE CAN NEVER BE THE SAME
ALL OUR YESTERDAYS ARE GONE FOREVER
OUR TALKS, OUR VISITS, OUR RELATIONSHIPS
ARE NO MORE
BUT MY LOVE IN MY HEART FOR YOU GOES
ON FOR ALL THE REST OF MY TOMORROWS
I CRY OFTEN WHEN I THINK OF YOU DYING ALONE
YOUR PASSING SO QUICK AND SUDDEN
BUT KNOW, DADDY, THAT YOU WERE NOT ALONE
BUT SURROUNDED BY THE LOVE OF YOUR CHILDREN
DAD, YOU BECAME BOTH MOM/DAD TO US. YOUR FAMILY WAS ALWAYS FIRST.
YOU SHOWED STERNNESS, BUT HAD A HEART OF GOLD, BUT HID HOW GOOD YOU WERE AS THAT WAS JUST YOUR WAY. YET YOU NEVER ASKED FOR ANYTHING FOR YOURSELF, BUT LOOKED FORWARD TO VISITS FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
"VISIT ME NOW" YOU'D SAY,
"AND LET'S LAUGH AND TALK TODAY"
WHETHER IT BE FOR FIVE MINUTES OR ONE HOUR
I'D RATHER HAVE YOUR TIME NOW
THEN ALL YOUR TIME WHEN I'M DEAD
I'D RATHER HAVE ONE PLEASANT VISIT
A SHARING OF CONVERSATION, A DRINK,
OR A MEAL WITH ME
THAN A VISIT WHEN MY HEART HAS
STOPPED BEATING
AND LIFE IN ME HAS CEASED TO BE
TO SOME YOU MAY ALREADY BE FORGOTTEN
YOUR PASSING A PART OF THE PAST
BUT TO ME AND ALL WHO LOVED YOU
ALL OUR SPECIAL MEMORIES ARE HERE TO LAST
YOUR DAUGHTER WHO YOU CALLED BABY,
LOVE, IRENE CHAVEZ LASKY

Do you have a copy of the Chavez crest? My uncle, Fray Angelico Chavez received an "official" copy in the 1950's from Dona Maria Flora de Chaves, Duquesa de Noblejas from Spain. Be happy to e-mail a copy if you are interested.
Does your Chavez family have roots in New Mexico?

Respected Roads Official Was Dedicated to City
By Paul Logan
Journal Staff Writer
Ray Chavez was a respected supervisor in the city Public Works Department.
"He was more than a boss," said Andre Houle, who worked for Chavez. "He was concerned with his people's welfare."
The associate director and street maintenance division manager died Friday after playing golf following work. Chavez, of Los Lunas, turned 51 in May.
A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. today at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, 101 North 10th, in Belen.
Houle said Chavez showed no signs of any problems while at the University of New Mexico South Course. He collapsed as he walked toward the golf clubhouse with Houle and Dan Tibbetts, who also worked directly under Chavez.
They immediately called 911 on a cell phone and gave Chavez cardiopulmonary resuscitation until paramedics arrived a few minutes later. However, nothing could bring Chavez back, Houle said.
"He didn't smoke or drink, wasn't overweight and exercised on a regular basis," Houle said. "It makes no sense to me."
About six weeks earlier, Chavez was named one of the Public Works Department's three associate directors. Houle said Chavez was a little anxious about his new job in charge of the rehabilitation of all the city's streets.
"He was dedicated to the city and was concerned about doing the best for the city in terms of the projects we did," Houle said.
Chavez was proud of the street rating system he put in early on in his 18-year career. It was used citywide to establish priorities on street projects based on condition and not on something political, Houle said.
"He was a good man and a great loss to the city," Houle said. "He was a dedicated career city employee."
Raymond Chavez grew up in Los Chavez, about two miles north of Belen. He was the youngest of 13 children.
Chavez earned a degree in civil engineering at UNM and then worked for the Federal Highway Administration in Austin, Texas, said Rosaline Chavez, his wife of 32 years.
He returned to Albuquerque and worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs on reservation roads before taking a job with the city.
"He was honest and he was fair with all his employees," his wife said. "He treated them with respect as well."
She said her husband never used a sick day and ran on their treadmill two or three miles a day about four times a week. He had high blood pressure but took medication.
Chavez was known for his humor, energy and willingness to pitch in and help whenever someone asked him, she said.
"That's why everybody's in shock," she said.
Rosaline Chavez said her husband totally cherished his four grandchildren. He also had nicknames for his more than 50 nephews and nieces.
She said they looked to their uncle as a role model because "he was the baby of the family who worked hard, went to school and maybe we can do that, too."
Other survivors include his children, Raymond Chavez of Belen, Jon Chavez of Albuquerque and Sheryl Chavez-Caudill of Albuquerque.

Roads Chief Joe Nester Chavez Stood by Convictions
By Paul Logan
Journal Staff Writer
Joe Nester Chavez Sr., a sometimes controversial Bernalillo County roads superintendent, was known for his strong-willed, outspoken nature and for helping others.
Chavez, of the Barelas neighborhood in Albuquerque, died Sunday of heart failure. He was 67.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Chavez, a husky 5 feet 101/2 inches and 220 pounds, was — in his younger years — often mistaken for a popular professional wrestler, Ricky Romero, Joe Nestor Chavez Jr. said Tuesday.
Joe Jr., a former state representative, described his father as a direct individual who didn't show his emotions.
"He stood very strong for what he believed in," his son said. "When he was superintendent, he hired the first two female heavy equipment operators. Two black females. He opened doors for everybody, giving everybody an opportunity."
At one time, Chavez's superintendent job was considered one of the most powerful positions in state. His son said his father oversaw the transportation, sanitation and maintenance departments as well as the roads and had about 450 people working for him.
"He found himself in position to help whomever he believed needed help," his son said.
As a staunch Republican, Chavez sometimes was embroiled in political controversy with County Commission Democrats, his son said.
Chavez was indicted in 1979 on charges of setting up with his brother-in-law a county gravel contract. His trial in state District Court, however, ended in a hung jury.
A year later, the commission barred him from the department only days before he was to retire. At the time, Chavez, 44, was granted a disability retirement because he had suffered a heart attack and triple-bypass surgery.
Joe Jr. said his father believed he had been given "a raw deal" after all his hard work for the county and helping people.
He said his father felt that because of his success at a young age, his squabbles were politically motivated.
Born in the tiny community of Lemitar, north of Socorro, Joe Nester Chavez Sr. had four brothers and four sisters. His father was a railroad worker.
Joe Sr. never said why he was given the unusual middle name, said Joe Jr., who spells his middle name differently.
"But one of the funny parts of it was everybody thought ... that (Nester) was his last name," his son said.
Joe Jr. called his father a good dad and a good husband, but for most of his life "he wasn't the kind to give you a hug or a kiss. But he mellowed out when he had his first granddaughter."
Chavez was, at 25, one of the youngest Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office sergeants ever, his son said.
While a deputy in 1962, Chavez pulled over a speeding limousine at the top of Nine Mile Hill. Inside was Elvis Presley. Elvis asked him how fast a squad car could go, Joe Jr. recalled.
"There's only one way to find out," Joe Sr. told Presley.
So Chavez let the king of rock 'n' roll take the squad car's steering wheel and away they drove with lights flashing, his son said. Chavez received an autographed photo from Presley and — luckily — he didn't lose his job, Joe Jr. said.
Chavez ran for the state Senate in the heavily Democratic South Valley in 1966. He lost by 13 votes, his son said.
He worked as superintendent from the mid-1960s until 1980.
"He had done so much in that short time," his son said of the superintendent's position. "He had a 10th-grade education and was holding a position that in most cases before and after him had required an engineering degree."
For about the past decade, Chavez sold cars at an Albuquerque dealership.
Chavez and his wife, Mary Alice, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
Other survivors include a daughter, JoAnna Mondragon of Albuquerque.

Hi! I am hoping to find some information out about my g.g.grandmother Maria C. Chavez from Chihuahua. She was born in 1878 somewhere in Chihuahua, most likely Carmargo. She married Refugio Hernandez in the 1890's in Santa Rosalia.
I would love to find out who her parents were and siblings. Any help would be most appreciated.
