Free! Rare book "CHAVEZ: American Clan" by Fray Angelico Chavez
Years ago I bought the last of the publishers inventory of "CHAVEZ: A Distinctive American Clan of New Mexico" by Fray Angelico Chavez - I have a few left. This book is out of print and extremely rare (it was a limited printing). There is a beautiful full-color Chavez family crest (coat of arms, "escudo") on the cover - the best version I've ever seen.
I AM WILLING TO GIVE A NEW/UNUSED COPY, FREE, TO A DESERVING CHAVEZ DESCENDANT. I like to see our family exchange Chavez family info and therefore will give this copy to the Chavez descendant who: 1)Provides the best and most complete NM Chavez genealogy (there is some stiff competition on this!); and/or 2)provides a list of the best printed and Internet resources specific the the Chavez family; and/or 3)creates a Chavez family website.
My purpose is to foster resources that the Chavez family can use in now and in the future. Your posting to this site AND (you MUST) email to me (2johnchavez(a)cox.net) will be your entry in this contest AND it will serve as a future resource to others. THIS CONTEST WILL END ON JUNE 1, 2003 - PROVIDED THERE IS AT LEAST ONE ENTRY WORTHY OF THIS RARE BOOK.
PLEASE CUT/PASTE/POST THIS TO (ONLY!) OTHER RELEVANT WEBSITES SPECIFIC TO NM AND/OR CHAVEZ GENEALOGY - CC ME OR SEND ME THE URL.

Am seeking info re my CHAVEZ ancestors:
Juan A. CHAVEZ & spouse Victoria A. who were listed in Lemitar NM (Socorro County) in the 1850 Census; both would have been born about 1790-800 or so; they had daughter, Rufina.
ALSO seeking info re: Jose CHAVEZ who married (Maria) Catalina MALDONADO (also misspelled as BALDONADO) who were married in Albuquerque or Valencia County area in 1803 - one or both were most likely from Valencia County NM (?around Peralta, Tome, Los Chavez, etc.?) - sorry, I know there were hundreds of Jose Chavez at that time, but this is all I have (except their children, grandchildren, etc.)

More Had Been Invited on Flight That Killed Three
By Paul Logan
Journal Staff Writer
The six-seat plane that crashed Friday night, killing three Albuquerque men, nearly had several more passengers.
Pilot Richard Fuller had invited a few more people to join him and friend Pat Chavez, on their trip to Arizona, said Kenny Trujillo, another friend.
Fuller and Chavez had gone to Arizona to pick up Fuller's son, Erik. Also invited were Trujillo, his business partner, Richie Tabet, and Trujillo's son, Joe, a student at Arizona State University.
Trujillo said he and Tabet were too busy to go. Trujillo's son passed up the free flight because of homework.
Fuller, 43, his son, Erik, 20, and Chavez, 47, died after the Piper Meridian plane clipped a high-voltage power line on its approach and crashed about a mile short of the Double Eagle II Airport runway, police said.
"I couldn't believe it," Trujillo said. "I was shocked. I lost three good friends."
A rosary will be recited for Chavez at 7 tonight at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara SE, in Rio Rancho. A Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas.
A visitation for the Fullers will be from 5 to 8 tonight at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming NE. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE.
Chavez owned Truss World of New Mexico Inc. in Bernalillo, where he lived with his wife, Cindy, and children Jennifer and Patrick Jr.
Beverly Cruz, another daughter, said her father — who always wore jeans, boots and a buttoned-up shirt — loved to be outdoors working or playing.
She said he was a vivacious, funny person who attracted attention because "he was very full of life."
"He wanted to be out doing something all the time with friends and family. He was just one of those people that you think is invincible. Until Friday, I thought he was."
Tabet said Chavez, known for a hearty laugh and perpetual smile, was a leader. He said Chavez was "the fun part of everything, whether it was business or pleasure."
"He just made everybody feel comfortable when they were around him. He always tried to pick up the bill. That's just the way he was."
He said Chavez ran a successful business and always made sure his trusses — the framework designed to support a roof — were right.
"He was proud of his trusses and felt (his business) was the best in town," Tabet said. "He knew it inside and out."
Chavez began the business with his brother and had been running it himself since 1993, his daughter said. His company did work throughout the state and in southern Colorado.
She said longtime employees as well as the family are committed to keeping the business going, "maintaining its integrity and doing what he would have wanted us to do."
Cruz said her father and Fuller, a perennial top 10 home builder in the metro area, met through mutual friends. Fuller owned Richard Fuller Homes.
She said her father "valued" Fuller's friendship a lot.
Tabet said Fuller was an excellent, safe flier, adding, "I don't think it was pilot error."
Fuller and his wife, Tammy, who were married 24 years, have a daughter, Summer Fuller of Albuquerque.
Trujillo said Chavez and Fuller "were a lot alike. They had very big hearts. Giving people ... You could call on either one when a fund-raiser was going on, and they would never tell you no."
Trujillo said Erik Fuller, a graduate of La Cueva High School, was attending Scottsdale Community College and was a member of its football team. He called Erik Fuller a "clean-cut" young man who dreamed of playing professional football.
Trujillo said Richard Fuller "gave everybody a chance to let them prove themselves. He tried to make (employees) successful. He treated you right."
Memorial donations for the Fullers may be made to Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris NE, Albuquerque, 87111, or Church on the Rock — Mexico Missions, P.O. Box 900, Quitman, Texas 75783.
