Ralph I. Chavez, 90, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family and Priest Monday, February 24, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bess Chavez; two sons, Abe Chavez and wife, Betty of Pueblo, CO and Ralph A. Chavez and wife, Phyllis of Rio Rancho; three daughters, Cathy Chavez, Rose Gilbert and husband, Jim and Gloria Baca and husband, Carlos, all of Albuquerque; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Sam, Frank and Pete; sisters, Lucy, Stella and Rita; and a very special family friend, Margaret Olona. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Frank O. and Helen Chavez of Belen. Ralph touched many lives with his humor, riddles, writings and poems. He will be missed by many. His articles have been published in the La Herencia newspaper. For 11 years Ralph was a school teacher in Valencia County. He retired from 33 years of service with the Santa Fe Railroad. After retirement, he went back to work as a bailif!

BOBBY J. CHAVEZ , 54, of Moriarty died Friday following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 29, 1948, in Santa Fe, to Pete and Dora Chavez. He married Ramona Lovato in Moriarty on Oct. 9, 2002. He was employed by the city of Santa Fe, retiring after 23 years of service. He was preceded in death by his father, Pete Chavez; brothers, Edward and Andy Chavez; son, Ted Lovato; parents-in-law, Fred S. and Silvianita Martinez. David Chavez, 86, a lifelong resident of Alameda, NM, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on February 16, 2003. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, farmer, sheepherder, and wine maker. David was a self-educated man, creative thinker, talented artist, and lover of nature, life and animals. He valued education, hard work and learning and instilled these values in his children. He would often say,"It's better to work with your head than your hands","An education is something that can never be taken away from you" or"You can achieve anything you want if you work hard enough." David retired after 37 years as a Supervisor for the US Postal Service. He is a survivor of the Bataan Death March, ex-Prisoner of War, and highly decorated soldier for his bravery and heroism in World War II. His numerous military awards included the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Presidential Citation. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Libby Chavez, preceded in death by sibling!

Mr. Fidel Gabaldon Chavez, Sr., 83, of Torreon, NM, passed away at his residence on Friday, July 17, 1998. He was born May 18, 1915 in Torreon to Salvador and Senida Gabaldon Chavez. Mr. Chavez was a life long resident of Torreon, he was a member of St. Antonio Catholic Church. He was a disabled WW II veteran, he served in the United States Army and Army Air Corps in Germany and France, where he was wounded. He married Lourdes Chavez, June 18, 1938 in Torreon, NM, she survives him of the home. He is also survived by sons, Richard Chavez and wife, Socorro, Leon Chavez and wife, Imelda, Tercio Chavez and wife, Sandi, Leroy Chavez and wife, Irene, Gilbert Chavez and wife, Maxine, Fidel Chavez, Jr. and wife, Diane and George Chavez and wife, Rita; daughters, Concha Candelaria and husband, Leroy, Rosemary Chavez and Angela Valenzuela and husband, Jose; brothers, Juan and Gabriel Chavez; sister, Rafilita Vigil; twenty-four grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces !

Oriol J. Chavez, 57, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, has had the unique experience of knowing the love and support of his family, friends and community. Fund raises, benefits, visits and tributes served as strong support to help him in his battle of Leukemia. Oriol was well known in his community as a boxing coach and musician. His death on June 23, 1998 is a loss to the many people who love him. She is survived by her daughter, Marian Effinger and husband, Albert of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Kathryn Richard and Thomas Evans, both of Reno, NV, James Effinger of Albuquerque, Robert Effinger of Fair Oaks, CA, and Christina Scott and husband, Tom; and children, Nicole and Greg, all of Albuquerque; and one great-grandchild, Anastasia Richard of Reno, NV. Mrs. Chavez is preceded in death by her husband, Alex Chavez in 1991. They were married for 22 years. She worked for 21 years at the Lucky Dozen Donut Shop.
