CLARA PEREZ, 75, of Santa Fe died Wednesday surrounded by loving family members and friends.
She was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Palma. Clara helped her husband, Victor, on their ranch for many years. She was a successful Avon representative for 36 years and made many friends. She loved people and was always willing to help anyone in need. Clara loved to sing, dance and take care of her grandchildren. She was loving and caring, and will be missed very much. She was preceded in death by her son, Victor Perez III, in August 1992; husband, Victor Perez Jr. in June 1994; father, Enriques Chavez; and mother, Isabel Chavez. VALENTINA CHAVEZ-BARBERO, 88, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Saturday. She was born in Las Vegas, N.M., on May 3, 1915, to the late Joaquin and Elena Martinez Chavez. A well-known businesswoman, she and her late husband, Eloy Barbero, ran the neighborhood business, Barbero's Grocery, for over 40 years. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eloy Barbero; parents; brother, Brigido Chavez; sister-in-law, Dora Chavez-Vigil; sister, Deluvina Martinez and husband Matias Sr..
She is survived by two daughters, Audrey Johnson and husband Kenny, and Norma Barbero Thornton and husband Tom; seven grandchildren; one granddaughter; sister, Corrine VanHorn; and many other relatives and friends.
Rosary devotional services will be at 7 p.m. tonight at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the same church with interment to follow at the family plot at the San Jose Cemetery.

Dolores M. "Flo" Chavez, 82, of Mountainair passed away peacefully Sept. 27 at her home in the loving presence of her family.
She was born in Red Canyon, N.M., on Jan. 28, 1921, and was a lifetime resident of Mountainair. She devoted her entire life to a Christian faith. She will be remembered for her loving smile, her kind and gentle nature and her generosity to many people and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albarito Chavez, and her beloved mother, Maximiliana Montano.
She is survived by her loving children, Craig Nester Chavez, Virginia and husband Nick Lopez, and Cindy and husband Juan Cordova; her beloved grandchildren, Abraham Larry Chavez, Jennee Aragon, Johnathan Cordova, Andres Cordova, Valerie Lopez and Sally Lopez; her beloved great-grandchildren, Albert and Aliza Chavez; brothers and sisters, Juan Montano, Maggie Vega, Rosalia Luna, Felis Baca, Marcelino Montano and Melescio Montano; many nieces and nephews; close friend Ron Garcia; and many other dear friends.

Benito P. Chavez, also known as "Mr. B", a lifelong resident of Los Lunas, NM, passed away on October 23, 2003. He was a member of San Clemente Catholic Church. He was well known throughout the Los Lunas area for riding his ATV all over town. He was a wonderful and caring grandfather and a devoted friend. He loved playing his trumpet with only his hands and everybody would stop and ask him to play different tunes. Many years ago, Benito was invited to Chicago to perform on the Ed Sullivan Show. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Gina Padilla, in 1992; one grandson, Tony Padilla, in 1990; and his parents, Abelino and Eugenia Chavez. He was raised in the Sawmill area of Albuquerque. After his Honorable discharge from the US Navy, he spent his time as an artist. Andrew George (Bubbles) Vincent Chavez, born February 4, 1964, died on July 14, 2003, following a courageous battle with adrenomyeloneuropathy. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Daniel S. Chavez and Carlos L. Chavez, his Sunshine. Four nephews, Anthony Michael Martinez III, William Joseph Martinez, Kenneth P. Jones, II and Erik Thomas Arvizu, also afflicted with the same dystrophy, preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Esther Gauna Chavez; siblings, Kathy Armijo and husband, Steve, Annette Arvizu and husband, Salvador, Theresa Chavez, Helen Chavez and fiancé, Jim Carpenter, Diann Jones and husband, Ken, Patrick Chavez, Carla Barker and husband, Troy, Theresa Davis and husband, Richard, Dina Gonzales and Trini Martinez. Mrs. Chavez is preceded in death by her husband, Demetrio (Tito) Chavez; parents, Rafael and Catalina Sanchez; brothers, Willie, Abelino, Mante, Leo, Nestor and Servando; and sister, Rachel. Edward Ernest Chavez, 85, was liberated from the bonds of this earth into the loving arms of the Lord on July 4, 2003. He was born in Encino, New Mexico, but grew up and lived in Albuquerque. To many family members and friends he was a hero. Eddie survived the Bataan Death March and was held captive by the Japanese for 3 years. During the Death March, Eddie carried one of his fellow soldiers, Foche Tixier, with the help of David Chavez, throughout the march, as reported by Foche's sister. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Philippine Distinguished Unit Citation, American Defense Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, Philippine Defense Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and Good Conduct Ribbon. He transcended the inhumanity of the horrendous experience of war and captivity and lived a life of kindness and caring. He was liberated in 1945 and learned that his parents had both died while he was held prisoner. He married his sweetheart, Josephine Fulgenzi, of Las V!
egas, New Mexico in San Francisco upon his return. Ed retired from the State of New Mexico Probation and Parole Office in 1980. He was a past Commander of the Bataan Veterans Association. He was a magnificent father of two loving daughter, Dolores Chavez Waller and Virginia Chavez Myers. Eddie was a caring and loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He took it upon himself to selflessly help family members, friends and those less fortunate than he whenever the need arose. Those who knew and loved him were honored to be a part of his life. Melisendro is survived by his wife, Dora Chavez, six sons, Joseph Chavez and wife, Evelyn, Melvin Chavez, Leonard Chavez and wife, Mildred, Mel Chavez and wife, Nancy, Ralph Chavez and wife, Annette, Johnny Chavez and wife, Rose; three daughters, Maria Moreno, Barbara Saavedra and husband, Edwin, Cecilia Padilla; one brother, Placido Chavez and wife, Gayle; three sisters; Mary Rios and husband, Albert, Mildred Leyba and Sophia Salas; seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Melisendro will be deeply missed by his loving family. A Rosary will be recited on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday time and place to be announced. Services are in the care of:Alameda Mortuary 9420 Fourth St. NW!

Ricardo Chavez"The Dawg," passed away on June 24, 2003. He was born on June 7, 1931 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Chavez is survived by his wife, Espidiona Chavez; son, Richard Chavez; daughters, Dianna Sena and Ben Chavez, Jerry Trujillo and Reitha McCoy and husband, Bill; brother, Billy Chavez and wife, Irene; sisters, Fannie Chavez and husband, Ernest, Sadie Mares and husband, Ray and Rosie Duran and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Chris Sena, Michelle Trujillo, Darlene Trujillo and Elliott McCoy and great-grandchildren, Fran Trujillo and Christopher Perez. Mr. Chavez will be deeply missed by loving family. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Eighth Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Donna L. Chavez, 43, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, June 20, 2003. She is survived by her parents, Preciliano and Celina Chavez of Albuquerque; sisters, Lucy Vasquez and husband, Dan of Albuquerque, Rosemary Cordova and husband, Mike of Lake Mary, FL and Frances Ann Gonzales of Aurora, CO; nieces, Michelle Vasquez of Albuquerque, Danielle Gonzales and Antoinette Gonzales, both of Aurora, CO; nephews, Christopher Vasquez of Albuquerque, Eric Cordova and Jason Cordova, both of Lake Mary, FL; and many, many friends. Donna was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Church of the Risen Savior. She was a volunteer for Carrie Tingley Hospital, worked for New Vistas Independent Living Center and was a member of the Spina Bifida Association of New Mexico Inc. Donna fought a courageous battle with a lifelong illness. It takes many stars to light the sky and Donna now you are now one of them. Rosary will be recited Sunday, 3:00 p.m., at French Mortuary,!
