The Chavez reunion kicks off on Friday with a Welcome Luncheon followed by an afternoon full of activities! We will start off Saturday morning with singing of the Mañanitas to all our honored guests, followed by flag raising, President's Welcome, and Mass. Right after Mass will be one of our more special events honoring Eddie, Abe, and Vito Chavez with This is Your Life! At the beginning of our infamous and crazy Talent Show, we will take a moment to recognize and thank those, have gone beyond the line of duty, civilian and in the military, to preserve our freedoms and make us proud as Americans.
We will be serving steaks and hamburgers with all the fixings at the Main Meal, and while you sink your teeth into some great food, you will have the chance to bid on lots of 'one of a kind' items during the Auction. There will be a 50/50 Raffle, which reached over $900 last year, a Queen-Size Quilt Raffle, and Special Chavez Reunion T-shirts available too!
And the fun doesn't stop there! Saturday afternoon will also be filled with activities to do for everyone! There will be Children's Games and Crafts, Volleyball, Horseshoes, and Adult Bingo and Crafts. Then it will be time to go freshen up, slick back that hair, and put on those dancing shoes for the Gran Baile from 8pm to 1am!
The 2002 reunion is being held just off Hwy 60 in Springerville, also known as Main Street, west of the Casa Malpais Campgrounds. Signs will be posted at the entrance after Monday the 29th. There will be lots of room for RVs, campers, and tents! A water well and a waste dump station are on the property. Port-o-potties and dumpsters will be on site from Friday the 2nd to Monday the 5th. Those who want other lodging accommodations can still make reservations at all the local motels and the campground (hook-ups) next door. Get them while they last!
Registration is $35 for families (all children must be under 21), $30 per couple, or $15 per person plus $5 per child (limit of $35). There will be a $5 fee per person for 'Over 21' ID bracelets. Underage drinking will not be tolerated. You must register to enjoy all the activities planned, including the horseshoe and volleyball tournaments, food and drinks, and both dances. Guests are welcome but need to register as a guest of a family member.
Sunday morning at 9am, there will be a meeting at the big tent with our newly elected president, his newly appointed board, and his dedicated committee members. This meeting is open to everyone. This is your chance to make a difference! Please come and see how you can contribute to our next family reunion of 2003!
Donations are always appreciated for the auction and bingo prizes. Donations and fundraisers are the backbone that keeps our annual family reunions successful and above water. We will also be taking up a collection for our host and his family in thanks for opening up their heart and their property to our family reunion. Our host has been a saint to give us this privilege without all the restrictions we would have faced elsewhere. If you would like to show up earlier in the week, please contact one of the committee members, the site will be available for use after Monday, July 29th.
We look forward to seeing you there!!!
(Besides, you don't want to miss seeing prima Jacque Chavez's new purple hairdo!)

Hi. I have the same name as you, Crystal Chavez. Well, actually Chavez is my maiden name, but just the same. Anyway, we are from Los Angeles, Ca. My family is Latino, more specifically, Mexican-American. I really don't have any other information. Other than the fact that we are often mistaken for being Native Americans, I guess it's our strong features. Well, I hope you find out more about yourself and your family!

I am looking for relatives of Rosita Chavez who was married to my gg-grandfather Reyes Apodaca. They had 7 children together: Ben, Annie, Flora, Catarino, Ed, Petra and Bill.
Reyes was also married to Felicita Nunez who was the mother to my g-grandfather Felipi Apodaca.
I believe Reyes was married to Rosita Chavez first, but am not positive.
Any info on these family members would be greatly appreciated.
Carla

Francisco Pino Yrineo Chavez was the oldest of at least 7 children of Jose Patricio Chavez and Rosalia Chavez all of whom were born near San Gabriel Mission in Los Angeles County, CA. He married Married Maria Cresencia Teresa Ortiz the daughter of Luis Mauricio de Jesus Ortiz and Maria Eliza Clark on Aug 24 1885 in San Juan delos Caballeros Parish. Jose Patricio Chavez was born in Abiquiu about 1828 the oldest son of Jose Maria del Socorro Chavez, the famous general, and Maria de Jesus Martin. Jose Patricio went to California about 1850 and married Rosalia the daughter of Abiquiu native Julian Antonio Chavez who had gone to California in 1834 and married Maria Dorotea Romero in San Gabriel on Aug 26, 1836 who was the daughter of Los Angeles natives Jose Antonio Romero and Maria Serafina Rosas. Jose Patricio Chavez returned with his wife and children to Gallina, New Mexico in about 1877 where he ran a store with his sons. It looks like a number of New Mexico/California famili!
es accompanied him to Gallina.

The only one I found is on page 123 in the MARRIAGES From The DIOCESE OF GALLUP, NEW MEXICO: 1777 to 1922, HGRC.
Jan 12 1853. Jose de la Cruz CHAVEZ, res of Sabinal, the 21 y/o unmarried s/o Jose Chavez and Maria de Jesus Varela, married Maria Josefa ABEITA, res not given, the 12 y/o unmarried d/o Andres Abeita and Agustina Silva. Wit: None given. Test: None given. Off: Rafael Chavez, Nuestra Senora de Los Dolores. Roll 9, Page 38, Frame 3.
And yes, they married them off young, and it seems Fray Rafael didn't seem to bat an eye about it.
This is the only Jose de la Cruz Chavez I found in the recently published Gallup Records. HGRC did not include all the parishes of the Gallup Diocese in these records though. They are to publish Gallup Diocese baptisms sometime in the next year or so. Remember, during your research, priests spelled everything in many ways. A lot in Spanish, some in Latin, and some in English, so much spelled phonetically. Above isn't really a translation, but an account of the information written down by the priest.
There is by all chance your Jose de la Cruz could have used a shortened name or been somewhere else. Knowing more about his wife, his children's baptisms, his parents, and when he lived would be a good start. If this is your Jose de la Cruz, let me know. Baptisms hold the best information, which I don't have on this Jose de la Cruz.

That is still a big can of worms, especially from Maine. Did your mom meet him in Maine? Did he live there for a while? I think the best way to go is try to track down his military records, or his SS#. He could be from NYC, Cuba,Puerto Rico, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, or Mexico, just to name a few. And there are a lot of Chavezs in Mexico besides the Southwest. At this stage, tracking down his military records and SS# is going to be your best route to accurate information. If he has past on, those records may be more readily available. Good luck.

Thank you Clarissa, I have put all that info into several message boards, adoptees and birthparent search boards,ETC. I am new to this board but will give as much as I know. My birth mother is Marion Whittier back in the 40,s,that was her maiden name. She was Marion Allison when she meant Anthony. All she told me is he was from the south,I,m not sure if it was south america or not. He was in the states in the 1940s and joined the Merchant Marines. She knew him for a short time and told me his name and this little info. She is very elderly now and says she doesn,t remember much. I was born in Augusta,Maine in 1947. I was taken into state custody when I was 4 wks old. My birth mother and sister found me when I was 44 yrs old. Up to that time I knew nothing at all about my birth family and since then I,ve meant my sister and 3 brothers and my mother. I try to visit when I can, since their in Fla. and Oklahoma and I,m in Maine makes it very hard to spend time together as we all!
wish. Please can someone help me. I will continue to post my info into as many groups and search engines as I can. Again thank you and write me anytime. Sincerely, Penny Parker

Does Anthony have anything to do with Jose de la Cruz Chavez?
If you would like to find out more about your birth father, it may be wiser to do a "new subject" post. If you know your birth mother's name, where they met, where you were born, posting that information would help jog someone's memory. Were you able to find his military records? In those records should be his full name and his parents names. There are so many Anthonys and Antonios that it would make your head spin. My family has a few, but none that I know to be in their 80s. Good luck and please post more information to go by.
I have a Jose de la Cruz Chavez marriage listing for 1853.

I,m an adoptee looking for any info on my birth father. His name is Anthony Chavez. He was a merchant marine in the 40,s. He would probably be in his late 70,s or mid 80,s. If any one has any info at all please I would forever be grateful. I have run into one dead end after another. Thank you, Sincerely, Penny Parker
