Now to answer everyone's questions about this project. There will be no
cost to the volunteer. A packet would arrive in the post and would contain
the following: photocopies of an asigned section to be typed/transcribe into
your choice of computer programmes; a large SASE to return the photocopies
once your section is completed; a small SASE with a computer disk (more info
about that below); and a SASE envelope to return the postage stamps on the
packet.
You will be working at home or where your computer is, working at your
leasure. You will be transcribing EZACTLY of what is on the photocopies, DO
NOT add anything which is not on the photocopies (more instructions will be
included in the packet). We would like to get this Section 3 done by the
end of October, but encourge you not to slack off and then October rolls
along and only done a few pages.
The photocopies would be listed as it is on the NMDI website as folllows:
SURNAME-GIVEN NAME-MIDDLE-DATEOFDEATH-COUNTYCODE-AGEOFDEATH.
I will refund your postage for sending the first page fill out along with
the packet. From your answers, I will be assigning section to fit your
schedule. If you're a slow typist, some past volunteers had said that it
goes faster when you get the routine down.
Computer programmes, you can use whatever you have. We would prefer you to
use a spreadsheet programme as MS Works or Excel, but a word processing
programme will also work. This is why we need to know what programme you
will be using and the disk in the small SASE will have a template for the
programme you will be using. We will later convert this data into a
spreadsheet format. Download it to your programme and later, when you have
completed your section, copy the data to that disk and send it off. More
instructions will be included in the packet.
Again, thank you for volunteering and will contact you when the packet is in
the post. The earlist the packets will be sent out in at the end of June.
Bye for now, Sam-Quito
