You certainly are the missing yet vital link. I am so glad you went on a search. I can't wait to tell my dad Robert, he lives in San Diego, CA. So far you have given me so many clues for investigation that the rest of the family don't have. Thank you. Go ahead and contact me directly at my e-mail address.

Vivian,
After replying to your query last night, I spoke to my Mom today, and needless to say, she was so excited! She is sure that your father and Tio Leo are her cousins. She remembers them and Betty and she remembers that your father Tony was "very handsome"! She also remembers Katy (Henrietta), and Richie. She and my Grandma Rena attended their mother, Francis', funeral. I thought I had read one of your messages where you mentioned that your father had been in some trouble when he was a young man, and my mother said that the family always referred to Leo as the good son and Tony, the bad one. She seems to remember your father with great fondness, she thought he had been killed in an auto accident. She said she was sure that Leo had been raised by a sister of Josephina's. Apparently, your grandfather Antonio would bring his wife and children when he came to visit with my grandma Severina (Rena) Rodriguez here in Phoenix.
My Grandma Rena and Jose (Joseph) Chavez were married April 7, 1919 in Clifton, AZ where his family were living at that time. His father, Aparicio (Patricio) had already passed away. (My grandma divorced Jose around 1929-30.
She later married Oswaldo Rodriguez sometime in the 1930's, and bore three children (Oswaldo Jr. (Lalo), Alicia, and Frankie) by him. She stayed in touch the the Chavez' families, and would visit them when she went to L.A. I think she really liked her mother-in-law Juliana. My Tia Alicia may remember more of the family as she usually was the one that went to LA with my grandma.
Do you know of any other Chavez family members still living?
My mother is the only child remaining of the union between Jose Chavez and Severina (Rena) Aros. Her brothers Joseph Daniel (Danny) and Richard (Dickie) have both passed away.
My uncle Danny had two sons that are still living; Danny and Randy. If you live in the LA area, you may have met them, as my Uncle Danny lived and worked in Los Angeles for many years until his death. My cousin Danny remembers visiting Chavez family members while he was living with his father. My Uncle Dickie had several children, many still living, but I usually only see them occasionally at family events.
I will try to get my notes more organized and perhaps we can exchange information regarding the Chavez's. By the way, are you sure that the spelling of Aparicio and Juliana are correct? My mom said my grandma always called him Patricio and we had always assumed that her grandmother's name was Julia, because my mother was named after her. However, you could be right . . . we're just curious. I also found your one message very interesting stating that Aparicio was Indian. As I stated in my earlier reply, my Grandfather Jose attended an Indian boarding school in Oklahoma and I always wondered why that was.
I really look forward to hearing from you . . . you seem to have a lot of information that I don't regarding our great grandmother Juliana. I would love to be able to provide my mother with any information possible. She always regretted never knowing her father or keeping in touch with his family (it's a long story).

Vivian,
Not sure if we may be referring to the same family. My grandfather's name was Jose Maria Chavez. I believe he had 6 other brothers and sisters: (The information after their names may not be totally correct, but is what my mother, Julia Chavez Lewry, remembers).
Antonio - had 4-5 children, my mother only remembers one of them: Richard (Richie)
Patricia - had a son by the name of Chato
Salome -
Ramon - was married to a Mary and they had 3 children
Antonia - had 1 son, Gene, who was killed in L.A by the police 1944-46. She also had 2 daughter, Gloria and Connie.
Filomenia - (deceased)
Jose was married to my grandmother, Severina 'Rena' Aros Chavez. They divorced around 1930. She had five children by him, Joseph Daniel, my mother; Julia Imelda, and Richard Frederick. They also had two other daughters that died shortly after their birth; Carmen and Ramona Antonia. I think that most of the children were named after Jose's relatives.
We do know that Jose (Joseph) moved to L.A. after the divorce and remarried. I don't recall the name of the woman he married, but I believe he had several children by her. My mother was never allowed to see her father again and it hurt her terribly. I would love to find part of her father's family for her.
I was always told by my grandma Rena that my great-grandfather's name was Patricio ( I was named after him!) and that his wife's name was Julia for whom my mother was named. However, Aparicio and Juliana very possibly could have been their names. They sound very close!
We believe that my grandfather Jose's family lived in La Union, NM where his father Patricio was a constable. My grandfather attended Chilocco Indian Industrial School in Chilocco, OK. I'm not sure why that was. His family at some time moved to Clifton, AZ. They were living there when he got out of the service (military). He and my grandmother were married there in 1919. They later moved to Phoenix.
I look forward to hearing from you . . . perhaps we are related.
