I am searching for my mother's ancestors and having a really difficult time.
Not only do I not know her family really well, but I am not familiar with
Mexico. Also, I did a web search on Mexican names and came up with a lot of
Spanish sites. I do not speak Spanish. These things really pose a problem
when
trying to do research!! I've also noticed that the people who are doing
Mexican genealogy are families that have now lived in the United States for
their past few generations. With my mom's family, she is the first
generation to leave Mexico. Most of her entire family including brothers,
cousins, and aunts and uncles still live in Mexico, mainly around Chihuahua.
I think a few cousins may have gone to Texas.
I'm very happy to have traced most of my father's ancestors back 14
generations, but I have had no luck on my mom's side. It seems to me that
most of the research done is mainly by people of European descent. I have
traced all of my father's lines back to Scotland, Ireland, England, Germany,
and so on, but I can't find my mom's family in Mexico. I know my father's
family well and was raised with them. I've met some of my mother's family
under
10 times in my lifetime. I was searching rootsweb and came across this list,
and out of desperation I am giving it a try.
My mothers father was Pedro Perez. He married Emma Chavez. They were both
probably born prior to 1935, and were married about 1940. They built a
house and lived in Chihuahua City. Their children are Emma Alicia (my mom),
Pedro Arturo, Leonel, Ramiro, and Rodolpho. Emma Chavez's parents were Jose
Maria Chavez and Gabrielle Cordero. Jose Maria's parents were Joaquin Chavez
and Nieves Maynes.
Do any of these names look at all familiar to anyone? I hope somewhere in
your
research you have a small bit of information that may help me out.
Here's an outline to hopefully make things easier:
Joaquin Chavez + Nieves Maynes
--- Jose Maria Chavez + Gabrielle Cordero
------- Emma Chavez + Pedro Perez
---------- Emma Alicia + Lee Duncan (my parents)
---------- Pedro Arturo
---------- Leonel
---------- Ramiro (passed away a few years ago)
---------- Rodolpho
I hope someone can help me out, if not, hopefully someone will point me in
the right
direction to continue my search. Thanks in advance!
~Karen G. Duncan

Our Dad deserves to know what happened to us, no strings attatched. I believe he was born Dec. 26 1945(+ or -) in 11-Mile Corner, AZ. & is 1 of 9 brothers and sisters. He is deeply missed & what we know & remember of him is only good.
