Sorry for the delay! It never told me that there were replies to my posting. My grandfather was never allowed to have any contact with my grandmother after she became pregnant (she was very young), infact, he may not have even known about his daughter. I wish I had more info, but all I have is what I posted previously (born in the 30's lived in NM, went to Gallup H.S. & either named Ralph or Frank). It's very interesting that you have uncles named Ralph & Frank, who lived in NM. Do you have their dates of birth? We may be on to something! As hopefull as I am to find a link, it's really my mom who woulk like to know her father, or at least his family.
Thanks.

I am interested in finding my heritage in New Mexico. My Grandfather was Joseph Herculano Chavez, father unknown, mother was Maria de Jesus, her parents were Mares on her mother's side. My grandfather was born in El Manzano, NM in 1860. His mother was born in 1840. She was called Jesusita and Married a Guadalupe Hidalgo and had children by him by the name of Carolina, Fred, Felisito or Tranquilino,
My Grandfather carried the name of Chavez, but in the 1880 census was listed under Mares as were the other children. He was listed in the 1870 census as a Hidalgo. I am trying to find out his real father's name and his mothers maiden name.
I was told she was a baena but it could be wrong. Please help

Dear Randy, Please send me a mail, I have something that may be of interest.
These names are not ringing a bell at this time, but maybe in the future. The Chavezes that own the Chavez Ranch by Lyman Lake are from a different line than the Chavezes that celebrate every year here, my clan. We had our 33rd Annual Chavez Family reunion in August. I have been trying to track the lines and have a fairly decent line up going. It is far from being completely done. Anyway, email me at henpeckerssociety(a)earthlink.net and I will fill you in on what I have, okay?
By the way, the chavez lines as well as all the other lines criss cross all over the place. If anyone grows up in the NM southwest area and married from this area, they are bound to crossed lines. It may a couple of generations apart, but I garrantee it is there. It is not all Spanish either. There is the different Indian tribes (darker skin), French, German, Greek, Moor, Portuguese, Dutch, African and list goes on. So there is a lot of variety.

Hi!
I'm Deborah Jabs (Etling), daughter of Vivian Irene Odell (Puckett). Vivian (my mother) is currently living in New Mexico. I am looking for the living family members of Ralph or Joe M. Puckett and Lucy Starbuck, as well as any information of ancestry.
I have found some, but wonder if there is more. I've seen the posting for Benjamin Franklin Puckett. So glad to find some information. I would like to talk.

Hi, Clarissa:
Sorry--have NO further info on Estefana (or Estefanita) Rubi OR Victorio Chavez (believe his name was spelled C-H-A-V-E-S at one point). Their son, my maternal grandfather, was Emilio R. (Rubi) Chavez, B. Lemitar, NM. M-Veneranda or Beneranda) Garcia in St. Johns in Dec., 1899. I have the Garcia/Chavez marriage certificate. Since I'm a Chavez on BOTH my Mom and Dad's sides, I did recently locate info on my paternal g-grandparents while in Albuquerque (at the Hispanic Cultural Center--GREAT resource!). Seems VERY likely both sides of the family originally stemed from Duran y Chaves. Documents do indicate Estefanita Rubi may have been born in what is now St. Johns. My mother and (I believe) all her siblings were born in St. Johns and include: Lorenzo, Estenfanita, John (Juan), Beatrice, Carolina, Emilio, Jr. of siblings who lived to adulthood. All now deceased. Believe there was at least one other birth--girl also named Beatrice--who died prior to my Mom's birth (she !
was the Beatrice who DID live to adulthood). I know we had relatives in and around St. Johns--also Winslow and Holbrook. One of my mom's first cousins was named Predicanda. I had almost no contact with ANY of the Arizona family members as a child. I'd be MOST appreciative of anything you may be able to provide on (especially) the Rubi side, but obviously would like to know parents of Victorio Chavez as well. Many thanks.

After the middle of February 2002, I should have more information on the 2002 Annual Chavez Family Reunion of Arizona. We celebrate the lines from Juan Bautista Chaves and Maria Manuela Romero's children --Jose Luis (Manuel's and my line), Catarina de la Cruz, Jose Santiago (the late David Gonzales of ABQ's line), Jose Angel, and Jose Anastacio, all of the mid to late 1800s in New Mexico. We schedule our reunions the first weekend of August of every year. I suspect it will be at the same place we have been having it for many years near Forest Lakes, AZ --in the cool pines. I am proud to be part of the committee that organizes it year to year. My email has change since the last post about it.

Do you have anything on Estafana and Victorio's parents? I have been working on the Chavez lines of St. Johns. Are you related to Eddie Chavez (Los Dos Molinos Restaurant) and Albert Chavez or one of the other Chavez lines? Please let me know and I'll look at the connections.
Sncerely,

Sure it is . I've fam. from Cuero--just write Dewitt county courthouse. They should have birthcertificates--I think it cost a dollar or two for a copy, 11.00 or more for official. Now my fam moved from Cuero (Dewitt) to ElCampo (Wharton Courthouse) to Houston (Harris county) so I have 3 courthouses so far! Take the time to visit the courthouse in Wharton someday- there's a memorial monument with names of soldiers who fought in wars, and antique shop galore, and friendly folks. Then, do archive work at libraries, genealogy archives, interview elders, and visit the family cemetary plots.
good luck
