Hi Alice
My 5th gr-grandfather, Jean-Baptiste Fleury, m. 1706 Marthe Chauvin, sister to
all those Chauvin brothers who went south. She was 22 years his senior, and it
must have been true l;ove as the marriage lasted 22 years until her death in
1728. They had one daughter, Marie-Angelique who must have died young as there
is no further record of her.
Marthe was the widow of Nicolas Lupien-Baron by whom she had a large family with
many descendants. In 1701 Marthe had a "naturel" child named Joseph
Lupien-Lafreniere-Ethier-Baron, with Andre Ethier. Joseph has many descendants
also by two spouses, Marie-Anne Lemire-Gonneville, and Marie-Madeleine
Sicard-Carufel.
This all becomes more complicated as after Marthe died, her spouse Jean-Baptiste
Fleury then m. 17 Oct 1728 Marie-Francoise Dulignon-Lamirande. Her brother,
Joseph Lamirande m. 19 Mar 1748 in Kaskaskia Hippolyte Chauvin-Lafreniere, widow
of Joseph Turpin. Hippolyte was b. 17 Jan 1718 to Nicolas Joseph
Chauvin-Lafreniere and Catherine, Native American slave. Their daughter
Marie-Rose Josephe m. Barthelemy LeBleu from France, and they were the founders
of all the Lebleus of the St. Charles area.
One of the Lebleu families sent me the continuing line of this couple.
Michelle Chauvin, another sister, m. 24 Aug 1695 in Montreal Jacques Neveu, my
7th gr-Uncle. Their daughter, Catherine then married 1728 Jacques
Hubert-Belair, son of another Chauvin sister, Marie-Barbe Chauvin m. 1687 in
Boucherville Ignace Hubert-Bellair-Lacroix. Michell and Jacques other daughter,
Marguerite Catherine m. abt 1749 in New Orleans, Francois-"Nicolas"
Chauvin-Lafreniere, son of the original Nicolas and his
legitimate spouse, Marguerite Leseur.
Marguerite, daughter of Nicolas and marie-Marguerite then m. 1767 in New
Orleans, Jean-Baptiste Anne Augustin de Bienville-Payan who was executed by the
Spanish along with her father. Marguerite was then my 2C6R.
Complex inter-relationships, eh? If you see any errors in this, let me know....
Glad you are back with the group. I really enjoyed the article you posted on
the Chauvin brothers.
Jackie
Does anyone know what happened to Michel Chauvin after he returned to France about 1651, where he was already married to Louise Delisle before marrying Anne Archanbault in Quebec in 1647?
