I concur that my 7 Jan 2012 listing ofCarolyn Coker maried to Robert Choudoin is incorrect. It should be a second marriage of Joseph Lee Chaudoin.

Thank you very much for replying. Actually it was Robert Byron Chaudoin who married Mary Rebecca Day. I know this because I have been talking to my aunt, who is Robert Chaudoin's granddaughter. If he was married to Carolyn Coker, it was before he married Mary, as they were together in pictures a few years before Robert died. Wallace was his father and Cornelia was his mother. Since I posted this on the message board I have found a wealth of info, both from a Chaudoin family FB group, and from my Aunt, whom I recently contacted. According to my Aunt, (she is Robert and Mary's daughter Opal Eunice Chaudoin's daughter), the story about him getting in trouble and leaving Texas is true. The story she had been told by her mother (Robert's child) was this: It was a really hard winter and there wasn't much food. So Wallace went out and shot a cow. Back in these days that was a hanging offense. The man who owned the cow came after him and Wallace shot and killed him. He loaded everyt!
hing he had in a wagon and came to Louisiana. Supposedly it was about 8 or 9 years later that he finally told his wife Cornelia what his real name was. Joseph Lee was the son of Robert and Mary. He was one of 4 sons. 2 of them were twins, only one of the twins died at birth. If you come across the initials R.B. in Roberts list of children, this is the one that passed away. His twin brother was called R.C. I do believe the rest of your information is correct though. I'm so happy to have been able to find out so much information.

I'm a descendant of the Chaudoin family in Kentucky but in researching the name I've tried the fellow the family from Virginia. If my data is correct I show Joseph Lee Chaudoin, 1912-1997 married (1) Mary Rebecca Day; and (2) Carolyn Coker. Joseph Lee was son of Wallace Alexander Chaudoin, 1859-1943 Cornelia Ann McCann. Wallace A Chaudoin was son of Bryon Chaudoin, 1834-1862 Mary Jane Chrisman. Bryon Chaudoin was son of Thomas Chaudoin, 1804-1869 Mahala Smith; Thomas Chaudoin was son of John Chaudoin, 1761-1863 Sarah Wilkerson; John Chaudoin was son of Francois Chaudoin, 1720-1799 Sarah Weaver. Francois Chaudoin was born in France and I found the following data for Francois:
Francois Chaudoun our first known American ancestor is identified by a
>book of early Virginia Baptists, a wanted poster appearing in the Virginia
>Gazette, Sept 2, 1757, early deeds of Manakin Town an early Huguenot
>settlement just west of what is now Richmond Va. tax records of
>Cumberland County Va. and a debtors list of Cumberland Co. published in
>1796. The wanted poster describes Francois as 5 ft 4 in tall, 140 pounds, dark
>complexion, about 39 years of age, a barber by trade and born in France. 40
>shillings was the price on his head for deserting the Virginia Militia during
>the French and Indian War. There is no evidence so far that he was
>apprehended. In 1700-1701 over three hundred French Huguenot refugees
>were settled by the colonial authorities on the south bank of the James River.
I found the following for John Chaudoin:
Francois Chaudoun our first known American ancestor is identified by a

Thomas Chaudoin, s/o of John I found the following:
Thomas fought in the Battle Of San Jacinto, TX. Willis was the son of Jesse. A brother of Jesse [Thomas} came with them. Both Thomas and Jesse were in Sam Houston's Army but not at San Jacinto during the battle with Santa Anna. Thomas carried the two famous cannons (twin sister's) to San Jacinto by wagon---account is in a soldier's diary. Both received a league and labor of land about 5000 acres as Texas soldiers. They initially settled in Halletsville,TX. Thomas' son Bryon died in 1862 on a hospital ship in the Chesapeke Bay. Byron's son, Wallace Alexander apparently got into some trouble in Texas, changed his name to Robert Windham for a while and went back to Chaudoin.
Wallace is found living with son, Robert in the 1930 Louisiana census. I don't have much info for Robert's son Joseph Lee except he was born 30 May 1912 Louisiana and died 8 Mar 1997.
Most of this information is from internet posted data.

If your grandfather was Joseph Lee...we are very much related. Joseph's sister Opal was my grandmother. I remember visiting with Robbie Mildred and her husband Coy Butler on several occasions and also their sister Clotell (whom if I remember correctly we all called Cootie). While I don't remember meeting the other brothers and sisters I remember my mother talking about Uncle R.C. and I think i vaguely remember her mentioning your grandfather's name also. I realize it's been several years since you've posted this but hopefully you will see it. If you do...please email me a-spruill(a)live.com. Hope to hear from you!
