Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
If you can share a little more about your Shadowen(s) line...perhaps
complete names of great-grandparents including maiden names and dates and
places, someone on the list might be able to place your family into one of
the branches. Can you get any further beyond your great-grandparents.

Can you tell me if the Chaudoins and the Shadowens of southern IL are
related? My grand parents are from Hardin county ( Elizabethtown) IL. They
are Mabel and John Shadowens.
Thank You
Liz Shadowens
At the present time, it appears that all with the surname of CHAUDOIN,
SHADOWEN(S), SHADOAN, and other variants are in one way or another
related...being decendants of Francois Chaudoin of Virginia. Many people
have a paper trail, but the DNA match is the best way to prove the different
branches relationships.
I have established a CHAUDOIN & Varients DNA Project, but so far we have had
no participants with the CHAUDOIN or variant surname of believed Francois's
descendants to participate. It would be nice if we could get some of the
different branches represented and matching to prove there is a family
connection.
It would also be nice if we could find Chaudron descendants to put to rest
the fact that the CHAUDOIN surname is related to the CHAUDRON surname, as so
many wish to claim without proof.

I am still trying to find why my Eliza Field infant orphan of William chose
Andrew Chaudoin as her guardian. Does anyone know of a connect between
the Field family and the Chaudoin family.
Thanks,

1870 United States Federal Census
Green County, Kentucky
Greensburg
Precinct 1
23 July 1870
#220-233
Hamilton, Leonard, 84, male, white, farmer, Personal Property $150, b VA
Hamilton, Margaret, 55, female, white, keeping house, b KY
Wells, Malissa, 17, female, white, b KY
Shadowen, Eliza, 76, female, white, Real Estate $600, b VA
(Ancestry.com: Image 33 of 38)
This census alludes to the following:
Leonard was born abt. 1886 in Virginia. [It appears that the abt. 1776
birthdate given by previous researchers is probably an error. The 1886 date
is further validated by the marriage info of my previous posting. ASH]
His wife was Margaret who was 29 years younger than he. [Now believed to
have been a widow named Margaret (nee Chaudoin) Forbis when she married
Leonard Hamilton, a widower previously married to Martha nee Chaudoin,
apparently Martha's niece. ASH]
Eliza Shadowen resided with the family. [Now believed to have been
Elizabeth "Eliza" (nee Scott) Chaudoin, widow of John Isaac Chaudoin (aka
John J. Chaudoin). ASH]
However, it appears that Eliza was the one who owned the real estate and
that she was perhaps the one with whom Leonard and Margaret resided. As the
male in the house, he was listed merely as the head with only personal
property, no real estate.
And, was there a family connection with the Malissa Wells who was also
living with them?
Trying to validate the facts concerning Leonard Hamilton.
Some say Leonard was born in Bedford Co., VA and others that he was born in
Buckingham Co., VA, but I have no reference for either statement...except
that he was born in Virginia.
It is given by another researcher that Leonard lived in 1820 Pulaski Co., KY
& by 1821 was in Green County, Kentucky, but no source of information
concerning this was recorded.
He is given by others as having been a farmer who died 15 Jul 1883 in Green
Co., KY, and given as having been buried in the Hamilton Cemetery, but where
is this cemetery located?
I am trying to backtrack and try to find the original documentation, a
source, etc. or from where a statement came to be...perhaps even family
knowledge. So...if anyone can help further with these Chaudoins and their
connections, it would be appreciated.
Audrey
Does anyone have any idea which David Chaudoin this would be?
He doesn't appear to be David Chaudoin (wife Mary) who was dec'd in 1839.
Could he have been his son, David Chaudoin (wife, Matilda Jackson)?

Can anyone identify the CHAUDOIN connection here. Is Margaret a CHAUDOIN?
Did she marry a Forbis as her first husband?
ASH
Marriage Record
Leonard Hamilton, age 83, married 15 Nov 1869 at Liza Chaudoin's to Margaret
Forbis, age 50, her second marriage.
