Audrey and All,
In The Virginia Genealogist, Vol. 40, No. 3, July-Sept, 1996, pg. 183:
"Following Andrew's death, on 5 March 1846 in Green Co., KY.,
Sarah Chadoin, widow of Andrew Chadoin, aged 85, declares she became the
wife of
Andrew 20 or 21 Dec. 1786 in Buckingham Co., VA. He died 17 Nov. 1845.
She moved
from Buckingham Co., Va., to Green Co., KY., about 1796.
She produced a copy of a marriage bond dated 20 Dec. 1786 in Buckingham Co.,
VA.: Andrew Chaudoin to Sarah Matthews (widow)."
It goes on to say:
" From other sources it is known that she was born Sarah Moore, daughter of
Robert and Susannah [_____] Moore. The couple moved to Green Co., KY., about
1796, according to the statement of his widow. Her parents, Robert and
Susannah Moore, moved to Green County at the same time. Robert Moore was
listed for personal property taxes in Buckingham Co., VA., annually from 1782
through 1796 (after which his listing ceased), along with apparent sons who
were named as tithable in his household in one or more of these years: Thomas
Guthrey Moore, Richard Moore and William Moore."
The article title is Francis (Francois) Chaudoin (c. 17127/1718-1799/1800)
of Manakin Town and Buckingham Co., VA. (continued) by Cameron Allen

Sharon,
I tend to think that she was a Moore based on family given names for
several generations in both the Moore and Andrew Sr. Chaudoin given
names and there was an 1808 will that names her as an heir of
Robert Moore in Green County.
Thanks for the additional information.

Bob,
I've heard a lot of the arguments whether Sarah was a Wheeler or a Moore.
The Virginia Genealogist cites the marriage license shows that she was a
widow of ? Wheeler and her parents were Robert and Susannah Moore. I don't
have anything else on her parents.

Sharon, Singleton H. Chaudoin was also my g-grandfather. Which child of
Singleton's does your husband descend from? My grandfather was Singleton's
son, George H. Chaudoin. I know that Singleton H. also had a son named
Singleton. Cheryl Chaudoin, Portland, OR

Sharon,
I don't have proof of why Thomas used the Singleton given name, however
a Moore researcher many years ago put forth the theory that it came from the
Moore, King, Guthrie family. His research was that Andrew Chaudoin b. 1761
was married to Sarah Moore instead of Sarah Wheeler.
Singleton was a surname from Sarah Moore's mothers side.
As was Guthrie, his reasoning for Thomas's middle name.
Singleton H. was a brother to my gr grandfather Luther Penick Chaudoin.
I have to add that there has been plenty of argument as to whether Sarah
was a Wheeler or a Moore.

Seeing the middle name of Singleton caught my interest. Do you know where
the name comes from? My husband's g-greatgrandfather is Singleton H.
Chaudoin, son of Thomas Guthrie Chaudoin and we have no idea where the name
comes from. Anyone out there know its origin?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Audrey,
That is a family of in laws of Joseph Singleton Chaudoin, b 1879,
md in Pontiac, Livingston county. died ca. 1955 in Angola Indiana.
He was the son of Luther Penick and Mary Ellen Bray Chaudoin,
Grandson of Thomas Guthrie Chaudoin and Martha Anna Penick.
gr grandson of Andrew Chaudoin and Sarah.
In addition to the Children listed Joseph was married first to ?
and had a son, I don't remember the son's name.
All my data is stored in Illinois and we have moved to Florida, but I
have sent the data for that family to several folks on the list.

information.
