Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
NOTEn to WESTIEGS(a)aol.com, saw the reference to your book on this e-mail. I
am interested in getting it, also, if you will please tell me how, etc. My g-
gma was Mary Ellen Chaudoin Jackson whose father was John W. Chaudoin. Thanks
- I'm learning more about the family by reading my e-mail - it's great!

Sorry genealogy lines,
I only meant to send that message about "Melissa" to all the people in our
address book, the entire genealogy lines. I know we all get enough junk
email and I accidentally just contributed to the pile.
John Bartlett
Please be careful about this one!!! There is a virus called Melissa which
attaches itself to Microsoft Word documents and also Microsoft Outlook
(that's possibly the email you use) in attachments. It appears as an email
from one of your personal address list and points to several pornographic
web sites. The attachments are quite disastrous to your hard drive. USA
Today and NPR have both reported that several businesses have been crippled
by this one. So, be careful with those attachments!!!
John
Dear Westie GS
I am very interested in the book you mentioned below. Does it have just
the CHAUDOIN or does it have very much of the GRIMSLEY's? Please sent the
price and how to purchase this book. Thank you for your time and
information. I am having a big problem getting the GRIMSLEY and HALE part
of my family. The CHAUDOINS and KESSLERS have been available through the
many whom have shared with me.
Sincerely,
Carole GRIMSLEY Fetters

I believe lots of CHAUDOIN descendants have spoken to Jeter GRIMSLEY. He
was such a kind man, and sent many of us information on our lines. My
husband, also a descendant of Benjamin S. & Henrietta (GUPTON) CHAUDOIN,
talked with Jeter numerous times even when he struggled with talking due to
his stroke. He wanted to talk about his lineage and share what he
knew...such a generous man! He wanted to leave his work for others to build
upon.
I have some information in the archives that was sent to us from him which
shows where various CHAUDOINs were where at tax time. Don't forget the
archives. All e-mail is archived. Check the bottom taglines as they come
through and eventually one will show up on how to access the archives.
My husband is descended via Benjamin to daughter, Phebe L. CHAUDOIN, who
married Asbury B. SHUFFETT. Anyone out there connected via that way?
I have a SHUFFETT family discussion list, also. We are trying to put the
SHUFFET(T)/SHUFFIT(T)/SHOFIT family together. Talk about surnames variants.
One descendant has discovered 32 different spellings.
Hey, have a good weekend everyone.
Love & Friendship,
Audrey

I was so surprised to see my Uncle Jeter GRIMSLEY's name in your letter
regarding the Chaudoins. I was wondering if you were researching the
GRIMSLEYs. I have emailed Uncle Jeter's daughter to collect more info on
the the line of my family. Uncle Jeters wife is close to 80 and is not
well enough so far to get the info together. Just thought I would ask.

Dear CHAUDOIN Members,
As moderator of the CHAUDOIN Discussion List, it is my responsibility and
sometimes unpleasant duty to "resolve problems and disputes between
subscribers" on my list, and to "deal with issues" that are harmful to the
well-being of our list on RootsWeb, as the RootsWeb guidelines direct me to
do.
RootsWeb Discussion lists were established to FREELY help others in their
research, and it is through the generosity of those who are so very willing
to share their finds, their research, their skills, and their time that
brings help and information to others in a less time consuming, economical
and advanced manner. This was my reason for sponsoring the CHAUDOIN list
and other lists that I moderate.
Let me say this again, as I have tried to say in the past.
Public records, transcribing of old works, and family information are being
shared FREELY on many RootsWeb sites so that the researcher can readily
have
information available. It is the perogative of the poster to share his/her
finds, or those things within his/her possession that do not violate the
copyright of others. One's OWN research of public records and knowledge
DOES NOT violate the copyright of others. MANY on this list have devoted
years, time, & money to researching this family line, and we should not
assume that one person is the total authority, nor has all the rights to
the
family information merely because that person has published his or her
work.
Also, excerpts and blurbs from copyrighted works used for scholastic
comparison such as what we are doing does not infringe on someone's
copyright. If we are not republishing the entire book in the format of an
author, but merely trying to correct errors and add to information in a
book(s) that has/have been published, then there is NO copyright
infringement or violation. If anyone checks out all the many Family
Genealogical Reports on the internet, one can readily see credits
frequently
given when the collector has used copyrighted material. If a book is not
intended to be used in such a manner, then why publish it. A genealogical
work is one that usually has flaws and needs to be updated and corrected.
If any person on the list is so concerned about his/her copyright
infringement, I would like to direct that person to this URL page:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~mikegoad/copyright1.htm , and to these particular
excerpts on one of the pages:
"To Promote the Progress of Science and Useful Arts"
"According to Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, 'The primary
objective of copyright is not to reward the labor of authors, but [t]o
promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts.' Authors are assured, by
copyright, to the right to use and copy their original expression.
However,
Copyright is also intended to encourage others to build freely upon the
ideas and information found in other works."
And this:
"In most fields of research, whether it be academic, commercial, or hobby,
the growth of knowledge is very dependant upon the efforts of other
researchers. This very much includes genealogy."
Here is another quote:
"The court further described copyright as being limited to 'original
intellectual conceptions of the author,' and stressed that an author
accusing another of infringement is required to prove 'the existence of
those facts of originality, of intellectual production, of thought, and
conception.'"
RootsWeb has established all kinds of Discussion Lists, Web Sites, Census
Sites, and all kinds of Bulletin Boards for getting information to others
for their genealogical searches.
It is the general expectation via guidelines that Discussion List Members
will not "flame other members of the mailing list" with threats. We need
to
"be nice to one another." And...it is not okay for one list member "to
bully" another, because of what is posted to a list that really does not
infringe on anyone's copyright.
Based upon these expectations and guidelines, it will be my unpleasant duty
as listowner/moderator to permanently remove/block any person from the list
that uses the list and its postings in such a way to "flame" or "bully" or
threaten another.
I am sad that I have had to take this stance, but if this list is to
continue as a genealogical aid, I must do so.
My sincere thanks to all of you out there who have so very freely and
willingly helped others find the information they need, and who have gone
out of their way to provide family information and connections without
berating them to do their own research. We are about freely SHARING our
finds and spreading the word via our Discussion List and Bulletin Boards.
If this is not your attitude/stance, then I suggest that you disconnect
yourself from the source of contention by unsubscribing.
Thank you for your time.
Love & Friendship to all in the group,
Audrey

Ellen,
Somewhere in this mess I call a computer room, I have a couple of letters from
a Jackson in Ohio that was related to your group. When I find it, if you
want, I
will forward his name and address.
Where in Illinois did the Jacksons move to, and where are they buried.
Do you have any biographical information for John W. or his children?
What information would you like to see posted?
bob
Vicki,
The original message was in regard to Joseph Singleton Chaudoin of Ky,
Illinois and
Indiana.
Although Joe Daniel isn't in a line I do a great deal of research on, Jeter
Grimsley
now deceased sent me data on this line. It will at least give you a little
more
data hopefully.
You might write the local history room at the Greensburg Libray, it seems to
me
that there was some additional data for Joe Daniel there.

In answer to the question of knowing more about John W. Chaudoin - I am
descended from him and his first wife, Rachel VanCleve. Their daughter, Mary
Ellen Chaudoin married William Jackson and my grandfather was their first
child, John Thomas Jackson (aka Frank Turner). They lived in Magnolia, KY
until the early l970's when they went to Illinois and spent the rest of their
lives and are buried there (except my g-pa who came West at an early age). I
am rather new to the computer-internet world so don't know what to tell you
unless you ask questions. Will be glad to hear from any Chaudoin or Jackson!

I guess I must have missed a beat! I saw this message about Joseph
Chaudoin, but did not see the original query. My father's name was
Joseph Chaudoin. He lived in Louisville, KY. My ggfather was Joseph
Daniel from Green County KY. Does this help anyone? I'd like to have
info on Joe Daniel's brothers & sisters. My father was an only child,
and I don't have much info on my ggfather.

Hi, Elizabeth,
So glad you could join us. We welcome any information that will add to our
knowledge about the family. It sounds like you have wonderful data and
resources that you have gradually collected. Possibly you wouldn't mind
sending that information to the Discussion List and also putting it on our
special CHAUDOIN Bulletin Boards. I can help you with that, or I can tell
you how you can do this. We have some wonderful CHAUDOIN experts out there
who have much knowledge of this family. There are so many out there willing
to share and compare in order to get information straight.
We like data and even little histories about people that played an important
part of this family. In fact, I encourage anyone to contribute short
biographies to the Chaudoin Biography Bulletin Board, as long as it involves
a Chaudoin. So...anyone out there...feel free to put your story on that
special person on the special bulletin board.
Also, you may wish to check the archives and bulletin boards for additional
information. Let me know if you need to know how. Check the "taglines" at
the bottom of each message that comes through. There are 10 different
taglines. One comes with each message and they provide some hints of what
to do & where to find information. Good Luck & Welcome Aboard!
Looking forward to hearing from you again.
Love & Friendship,
Audrey

Public records, transcribing of old works, and family information are being
shared FREELY on many RootsWeb sites so that the researcher can readily have
information available. It is the perogative of the poster to share his/her
finds, or those things within his/her possession that do not violate the
copyright of others. One's OWN research of public records and knowledge
DOES NOT violate the copyright of others. MANY on this list have devoted
years, time, & money to researching this family line, and we should not
assume that one person is the total authority, nor has all the rights to the
family information merely because that person has published his or her work.
Genealogical Reports on the internet, one can readily see credits frequently
given when the collector has used copyrighted material.
We need to
"be nice to one another." And...it is not okay for one list member "to
bully" another, because of what is posted to a list that really does not
infringe on anyone's copyright.
Love & Friendship to all in the group,
Audrey

Elizabeth,
I don't know about the rest of the group, but I would appreciate all you can
share re: John W. Chaudoin's family as far down the chart as you can go.
I am a descendant of Thomas Guthrie Chaudoin, and am guessing you have
been in touch with Dixie Price, of Greensburg. She is a great lady and
probably the most knowledgeable person alive about the Chaudoin family in
Green County.
I would like to exchange gedcoms with you if you are interested.

Does anyone know who the wife Sally, and the children were of this Andrew

CHAUDOIN line??

I have been reading my e-mail with growing interest lately. Yes, I am a
direct descendent of Francois, Andrew, John W. and his daughter Mary Ellen who
was my great-grandmother. I, too, have copies of the Tavern Bonds of Andrew
and John M. (also signed by John W.). I also have estate info., wills,
marriage licenses, etc. My gg-gma was Rachel Vancleve, John's first wife. I
have quite a lot of info but don't know how much you need or want to know?
I'm new to this e-mail group and am really enjoying it - but may need some
instruction as I'm rather new to the computer world also! A note to Audrey
and Wayne - with whom I corresponded about 3 years ago after they had seen an
article in the Gen. Helper - I didn't really know much about the Chaudoin's
then - was just starting. In the meantime, however, I have been in touch (by
snail mail) with a direct descendent of John W's brother, Thomas G., in
Kentuky. She doesn't have a computer. Hope to hear from any of you who are
interested.

Dave,
It is a possibility, but what location in 1814 do you show John Mims and John
W.?
I was thinking that Johm Mims in 1814 was either in Hart Co. or in Tennessee.
Are these the same John M. and John W. named in Andrew Sr's. partition deed?
Was old John b. 1761, in Illinois by 1814 or was he still in Ky?
