I think that you need to write to both Hart CO, KY. and to Green CO, KY to the
Ruth Perkins at the County library there in Greensburg. She has all the obits
of people who were deceased in the area and of the Weddings as well. We
fought for years over the Cook family that married into the Chaudoins and the
Purvis's as well, we have finally found that the Cooks were in Barren as well
and the Purvis line into Pulaski CO, KY before moving into Green. Later the
Cooks sold there land in Green CO, Ky and moved back into Barren. So these
guys really on the move. Some of the Chaudoins of TN. and KY are in AK, and
into TX. by 1855. Westie GS
Hi, Martha,
Sorry no one has been able to help you yet. I have a couple of thoughts,
but don't know where it will take us. Are your sure CHAUDOIN is her maiden
name and not a previously married name? I had that happen to me once in my
search for a person. Sometimes we have to keep all options in mind.
I also had a person who was taken in and reared by a family, yet not
adopted, who chose to go by that family's last name. Any thoughts?
Also, I think that is a query that should go on the World-Wide GenConnect
CHAUDOIN bulletin board, when you have time. GenConnect is down for a
couple of days because they are improvin it, but you really should put it
out on that bulletin board also. It is at:

Hi Audrey and all,
I am still looking for my Eliza Chaudoin's parents...She married George W.
Fields in Green Co. Ky in 1834. In the Green Co. records there is an Eliza
daughter of WM Field who chose Andrew Chaudoin as her guardian. I can't find
her listed in any Chaudoin book and I haven't found proof of the relationship.
I don't know if this is the same person or granddaughter of Andrew or what.
Any wills or other leads are appreciated. I joined the Green Co. Historical
Society but haven't heard back and I stopped in there too but couldn't find
anything which helped.
Thanks
Martha
Thanks, Judy, for sharing.
I see the "SHADOWEN" surname as a connecting or related family here. If you
go to the site mentioned by Judy, you will find additional information
concerning the book.
Some of the surnames mentioned in the book are: Ashby, Austin, Baker,
Belcher, Boulden, Broadway, Buster, Castleman, Clubb, Cole, Craig, Fritch,
Fulgham, Hale, Haynes, Hutchison, Jaco, McGee, Ozment, Pugh, Reams/Reames,
Saylors, S. Barger, Shadowen, Shaw, Skyles, Stone, Taylor, Tomlinson/Linson,
Wieneke, Williams, Wilkins, Wright & Wyatt.
Any other books out there that others have come across?

Gloria and All,
Gloria's response is to my (Audrey's) query concerning Emily J. CHAUDOIN,
dau/o Benjamin & Henrietta (GUPTON) CHAUDOIN.
I have said right along that my husband is descended from Benjamin S. &
Henrietta (GUPTON) CHAUDOIN. That was why I am so interested in Benjamin's
family and also interested in the SHUFFETT family, as a daughter married a
SHUFFETT and my hubby descends further from that line.
Yes, Gloria, you sent me a little concerning this family in a previous
e-mail, but if you remember, you told me that you had put something together
for me that was to go out later on a bulletin board or something, and I had
written you back that nothing ever came through. That's why I have been
questioning a lot about this family, especially since Benjamin's family line
was in that part of the book left out by the publisher. You had also said
that you sent addendums to people who had purchased the book, yet we did not
get an addendum concerning Benjamin's family, which I also wrote previously.
That is why I appreciate learning what was meant to be in the book. Thank
you for helping.
Yes, I will be checking censuses next, but I have gotten a little
information from other researchers and resources, especially when we were in
Green Co., KY a number of years ago. Isn't doing one's "homework" also done
by checking what others have written, buying other's books, checking other
material, writing letters, going to other states to research, chatting via
the internet with those willing to share what they know,...etc.? All of
which we have done.
It's nice to know what other people know, because we all sometimes gather
different information depending upon who we communicate with or what
research materials are available to us at our places of research. So folks,
please share titles of books that might be interesting to CHAUDOIN
researchers and possibly where they are located. Sometimes books can be
borrowed through interlibrary loan. It's all so interesting.
One set of my grandparents had 11 children and I have talked to many
cousins. Each tells me different information which is great. I prefer to
find out first via others what is known, then do the records to verify. I
been able to put together some of my history based upon what is known by
others and thus records either verify or prove a different story. Guess
many of us go about genealogy in different ways.
However, my main interest does not directly lie in Emily alone, but in the
whole CHAUDOIN family, with an emphasis on Benjamin's line. So...my
research or "homework" as Gloria calls it is spent first in other ways.
I am quite involved in genealogy and helping people find information. I
moderate eleven family group discussions, 12 Bulletin Boards, & co-ordinate
the transcribing of the History of Butler Co., OH. Sometimes I can't get my
"homework" done because of helping others, so I appreciate all that is
shared over the CHAUDOIN-L with regard to this family. THANKS TO ALL who
respond to queries, and who help others.
So...folks, please keep on sharing what you know about your family or learn
about the CHAUDOINs as a whole. You are all great.
Also, please use the special Gen-Connect CHAUDOIN Bulletin Boards that are
available to us to post specific information for other researchers
concerning this family. These work great, because if you are on another
Bulletin Board like Green Co., KY bulletin board and you put in the CHAUDOIN
name for researching, it will bring up all CHAUDOIN information sent in via
Gen-Connect and will include our CHAUDOIN Bulletin Boards and other places.
So we need Bible Records, Queries, Pension Records, Biographies, Obituaries,
Wills, & Deeds added to these. You may add research you have done, if you
like to share. Census information would work great on the Biographies
board. I will repeat in another message the information concerning these
special boards. So..."can you spare" a moment brother/sister to place a
record on one of these boards.
You may wish to repeat a query that was sent to CHAUDOIN-L Discussion List
on the special Gen-Connect Bulletin Board for queries, also. That would be
okay.
Okay, now, Gloria, you must be using a Californian term which I don't
recognize here in my neck of the woods. What is a "Bit Bucket?" Sounds
interesting! Maybe another story!
Thanks again, Gloria, for the information concerning, Emily Jane CHAUDOIN.
I had the same information from other resources, so it was nice to verify it
with the author of the book. Hopefully someone on CHAUDOIN-L (now or in the
future) is descended from her, so they, too, will know where to go for the
information.
Love & Friendship,
Audrey

I would like to compare notes with someone who has this family.
>From my research I have that Emily J. CHAUDOIN b ca 1821; m 20 Nov 1838
Green Co., KY to John F. WRIGHT. It is said that after her death, her
husband remarried.
I have another birth date given as 1849, but believe this may be her death
date.
George F. WRIGHT is listed as being on p. 12 of "Chaudoins of Virginia,"
however, he does not appear there, nor does his wife.
Does anyone have additional information on this family who might be able to
validate the dates and information. I also have that her name is given as
Emily Jane. She is the dau/o Benjamin and Henrietta (GUPTON) CHAUDOIN, my
husband's ancestor.
Audrey
Emily Jane is named in the Will of Henrietta and had to get Ruth Perkins again
to go to the court house to finalize the fact that Emily had further children,
other than the two that were named and as usual the Bit Bucket took all of
that away. John F. Wright was her husband and she had quite a few children.
I thought you said that Thos. Chaudoin was the fella that was your husbands

over the E-mail net she married John 20 Nov. 1838 Green, CO, KY d: by 1858.

Hi members,
A friend sent this to me, thought it might be of interest. Judy
I got this site off of another list. It is a great one!
I did a simple search on my surnames and got many hits.
I heartily recommend visiting the "National Union Catalog of
Manuscript Collections," also known as NUCMC, at:
<http://lcweb.loc.gov/coll/nucmc/nucmc.html>
The print version, which we librarians call "nuck-muck," has been
a reference standby for years. I didn't know it was available
online, and boy, did I print out reams of records from it.
So why should you be interested in NUCMC? First of all, let me
explain what a "union catalog" is. A union catalog is what you call
the result (whether in print, microform, or online) of recording and
describing the holdings of multiple libraries, archives, or similar
repositories. For example, I worked in a public library that had a
county-wide union list of periodicals, which enabled us to refer
patrons to another local institution (college, university,
historical society, etc.) if our library happened not to subscribe
to a certain periodical (magazine, journal, etc.) and someone else
did.
Now, most of you know that the colleges, universities, historical
societies, archives, and libraries across this country have all
sorts of one-of-a-kind items, usually from people, places, and
things that aren't there anymore. People who are deceased,
companies that are defunct, charities that folded, and so on.
Items such as:
* family bibles
* family papers
* business records
* church records
* charity records
* ethnic organization records
* arts & cultural organization records
* photographs
* political and advocacy organization records
* maps, posters, charts
* architectural plans
* letters, correspondence, diaries
What NUCMC did was survey these repositories large and small--
across the entire US--and publish the results in many, many large
volumes, which are still available in libraries. And now NUCMC is
online, meaning that you can do a search on your family names,
place names, and institutions connected with the people you are
researching. You can search the companies they worked for, the
clubs, societies, and fraternal organizations they belonged to,
the churches they attended, and so on.
Now, there's *never* any guarantee that the records you seek were
given to a proper repository instead of going in the furnace or
dumpster, or that an ancestor left important papers, but try a
simple search on your (US) hometown and see if you were familiar
with half of the stuff that turns up. Then try a search on
"_______ family" (your surname). Those with Anglo names will
probably have the most success.
I did an easy word search on "Buffalo, New York" and got over 500
hits, several of which told me that some religious charities'
records are now held by an archive elsewhere in the state; that
the papers of a few prominent Buffalo citizens are likewise in out-
of-town repositories.

I have set up CHAUDOIN Bulletin Boards. I sent through information on these
bulletin boards earlier.
I would appreciate if someone who has a Bible Record could post that Bible
information by clicking on this hyper-linked URL and posting the information
at:

Is there anyone out there who may have something for this Bulletin Board?
It can be an early or a late Bible Record, but it can be only a Bible
Record.
Remember we also have Biographies Bulletin Board, Deed, Obituaries,
Pensions, Wills, & a Query Board available. Any takers out there who can
post to any of these let me know. I can resend the URLs. The biographies
can be of your own authorship on one of your ancestors. Would like to see
these used. I will be transferring some of the queries from the CHAUDOIN
Discussion list to these GenConnect Bulletin Boards, too.

Sometime ago I posted a request for information about George CHAUDOIN
and his wife Mollie (HUTCHISON) CHAUDOIN in Arkanasas, asking for any
information about their family.
Someone on this list graciously sent me information about them
including information about their children, most of whom were born in
Sharp Co., AR.
Unfortunately, I did not print out the info, but saved it in my
computer and then had a problem and lost that information.
I would really appreciate it if the person who sent that would send it
again.
I would also like to know if the sender is related to the family in
any way as I am also attempting to find children and grandchildren of
George and Mollie.

DOCTORS FIND NEW DISEASE! WARNING!
Doctors have discovered a new disease that is very contagious to adults.
They have named it Genealogy Pox.
SYMPTOMS: Patient continually complains of a need for names, dates, and
places. Patient has a blank expression on his face, and often seems deaf to
mate and children. Has no taste for work of any kind, except for feverishly
looking through records, libraries, and courthouse.Has a compulsion to
write letters and spends hours sitting at a computer. Swears at mailman
when he doesn't leave mail or threatens to kick computer if there is no
e-mail. Frequents strange places such as cemeteries, ruins and remote
desolate country areas. Makes secret night calls and hides the phone bills
from mate. Patient
mumbles to self and has a strange faraway look in his eyes. Has a strange
compulsion to gather and scatter old papers all over the house, leaving
piles of paper everywhere with strange numbers and names all over them.
TREATMENT: No known cure. Medication is useless. Disease is not fatal, but
gets progressively worse. Disease is spreading throughout the country very
fast, quickly becoming an epidemic. Patient should attend genealogy
meetings, workshops, subscribe to genealogical magazines, and be given lots
more forms and a computer situated in a quiet corner of the house where he
or she can be alone. If family supports patient through this, patient will
occassionally come out of strange trance and will act normal again unless
you drive by a
cemetery or courthouse.
REMARKS: The unusual nature of this disease is such that the more sick the
patient becomes, the more he or she seems to enjoy it sometimes dancing
with glee and yelling, "I found it!"
Does this sound familiar? Could you have this disease? I do!!
Have a good one, Judy

Hello, All,
I have been going through my e-mail, and note that many of you cite
Alexandre CHAUDRON & Marie BOILEAU, as the parents of our Francis CHAUDOIN,
and have assigned children to this family including our Francis.
Different people have suggested that they have been unable to prove such a
connection, and that this is false, while others indicate such a connection.
However, to date, I have not seen anyone post a legitimate source for this
particular ancestor...legal document, French record, immigrant record, ship
record, death record, or such. There does not appear to be real evidence
from French records, etc. that this is true, and we really need to research
those French records to see if this is really his family. We can't assume
anything unless proven even if posted in supposedly legitimate sources.
I say this because we have recently come to a realization from our resource
that Dave's ancestor, John HANCOCK, was probably not born in Henrico Co., VA
even though IGI, DAR, & the Boddie HANCOCK book makes that assumption and
states such as a fact without true evidence. It appears that these
supposedly legitimate resources have picked up on someone's information and
repeated it continually.
If we cannot find true documentation, Alexander & Marie should not be
considered to be correct or we keep passing on possible erroneous
information in our family histories. If there is anyone out there who can
validate this assumption, please do. We need your help. We need dates,
places, etc....anything that will bring to light the evidence that we need
to validate this information.
So...it is that I caution you, and hope that we can validate his parentage.
Audrey
