Hi there.
I just started looking at my family tree and got the following information
from my mother. It might help you?
My grandmother was Maria Susannah Chatterton, born in Boshoff, Free State,
South Africa.
I don't have a lot of info yet, still looking into it but I believe her
grandparents was a man called Henry Chatterton who boarded a ship to South
Africa. My mum seems to remember an Elizabeth being the grandmother. I know
my ancestors were from Yorkshire. Who was there I'm not sure yet.
I will let you know as soon as I have more info.
Is this helpful at all?
Yes but which censuses did you look at i.e. supplied by whom as I asked ?
Regards from Valerie in sunny Sydney.

All but the 1841 census Valerie.plus IGI, Bishops transcripts, Church
records. etc I worked out that
if Charles was 21 at the time of his wedding 8th Aug 1807 he would
have been 74 on the 1851 census.

Have you looked at the censuses and if so who was the supplier as you need
to look at all available sources of the same census eg ancestry,
genealogist, findmypast and origins where available.
Regards from Valerie in sunny Sydney.

Hi
I think this Chatterton is an ancestor. I will dig out some stuff. Brayton at this time had Dade registers (oh joy). BUT despite hunting through these registers, I cannot get this family back beyond the beginning of the 19th C. Brayton is very near Selby and there are Chattertons in those registers. There was also a big non conformist movement in Selby in the 19thC. I went to Kew to look at those registers, but did not find the search system sensitive enough to meet my needs.
