David, thank you for your reply. One set of great-grandparents in our family are Giovanni Bovi, born abt 1845, and his wife, Lucia Artoni, born abt 1848, both of Gualtieri. They had at least 2 dtrs that I know of: Corinna and Albensira Elisabetta. Corinna married Ercole Pacchiarini and they lived in PA. Elisabetta married Candido Bugna in Federal PA. Candido, Elisabetta and children returned to Gualtieri during the WWI years and then back to PA and eventually to CA. Bovi and Artoni both died around the time 1920. I have spent most of my time working on 2 other lines and have very little on the Gualtieri group. I know I have more Artoni names from the cemetary; I can forward them to you if you're interested. My direct email is: justjo91(a)juno.com. Jo

Justjo91, thank you for your note. Gioacchino Artoni was an organizer for the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America union from the mid-1910s until his death in the late 1930s. He and his family lived at the Botto House in Haledon, NJ, from about 1917 until ??????? The house is now a National Labor Landmark. Several years ago I received from Cornell University's Kheel Library copies of his letters which I added to other geneological records that I have from my grandmother, his eldest child.
The names that you provided from your trip to Gualtieri probably are my relatives. I have procrastinated in writing to the town for birth records on Gioacchino and Evarista (his wife) - I know that he was born in 1866 or 1867 (and I have the day and month from his death certificate that differs in the year only from the memorial in the union hall in Philadelphia) and from his obituary.
Anyway, thanks for the responses ....... are you a family member Justjo?
David

As I read through this message board again, I realize that your great grandfather was the Gioacchino Artoni who was an early labor organizer with the Clothing Workers of America. There are some limited collections of his papers.
