I need to make a correction to my previous post. Edmond, Alexander and Ann were the children of George, who was the brother to William Chadderton.
Apologies,
Corinne Chadderdon
There are so few postings on this list that I think it may be good for
all members to send to the list who they are looking for. Some people
have left the list and more have joined, so someone may be on it who was
not when you asked before.
This is really getting to ba an international list, there are members
from at least 6 countries using it at this time.
Cheers

Just as several other members of this list, I am still looking for the origin and parents of my immigrant ancestor Michael
Chatterton. The first documentation of Michael is in 1640 but it is thought that he may have arrived at Strawberry Bank, New Hampshire in 1632 as most of the townspeople did. Michael married Jane Woodward about 1626 somewhere in England. Jane Woodward is thought to be the daughter of James Woodward who named the son of Michael and Jane as the legatee and executor of his will.
I have been focusing my research in the area of Lancashire, England. I have not been able to document the following but it looks promising. Would love to hear your ideas, either positive or negative.
The Chadderton's of Nuthurst were tenant farmers who lived at Little Nuthurst Hall from 1260 to 1871. They were prosperous and were able to send there sons to Cambridge where many of them became clerics. The most notable was William Chadderton. One of the sons of William was Edmond and his children were Thomas baptized 26 Dec 1575, Alexander baptized 15 Dec 1577 and Ann baptized 14 Aug 1582. Thomas Chadderton has a son Michael b.1600. There is a record of Alexander's death in England and a copy of his will is on record. There is NO record of Thomas' death.
This is where is gets interesting. Our Michael is thought to be born in 1605. There is a Thomas Chatterton in Pisquataqua and Portsmouth as early as 1631 and he is thought to be a possible father to our Michael. Coincidence? Maybe.
Hopefully one of you out there can document this theory one way or the other. I, myself, haven't been able to prove it as yet.

Hi
My interests are at the moment all in Sheffield, England.
I am researching my husband's family as well as my own so my mind is swimming with things at the moment.
My husband Brian Arthur CHATTERTON b.13.6.1945 is the son of Arthur Risdale CHATTERTONb.22.6.1909 -d.5.5.1992 married 1933 Sarah Ann BENSONb.1.11.1909 -d.2.2.1983, Sarah's mother, also Sarah Ann CONNOR/KENNY B.7.12.1989 (not known which yet some confusion) married ? Reuben BENSON b.9.2.1887 d. pre 1933 and then sometime after 1933 married William CHATTERTON b.4th qtr 1886 - d. 25.5.1952 (father of Arthur Risdale Chatterton).
William CHATTERTON was first married to Annie Elizabeth FIELDSEND b.1st qtr 1887 - d.15.11.1932 who burnt to death after having a fit and falling into the fireplace. The other children they had were Stanley Edward (Ted) CHATTERTON b.? - d? married Gladys ? b.? - d. 7.11.1946 aged 35 (I have a grave receipt for the General Cemetery), Mary CHATTERTON b.? - who is still living I believe married ? JOHNSON. There was also an adopted daughter called Ann, she was taken in by the family and eventually adopted so I was told by Arthur Risdale CHATTERTON.
Hope this is not too confusing. Any connections would be pleased to hear
