My grgrandfather, Isaac Chatham was listed in the Wilson County, TN 1850
census, and one of his sons was named
Benjamin, and was 17 years of age at the time of this census. That is
all I know about him. He has a great grandson, Ray
(Butch) Chatham in Virginia, who has never been forthcoming with any
information on Benjamin. Isaac was born in North Carolina in 1800 and I
do not know when he moved to TN. His wife listed in this census, Nancy,
17, is a second wife. Isaac's first wife an mother of his childrenwas a
full-blooded Cherokee Indian, and his father disinherited him for
marrying her, The seconc wife was the daughter of a neighbor, Pleasant
Johnson, a neighbor, who was also a neighbor in Cswell County, NC.
Isaac later moved to Nashville, and lived with son Willim, my
grandfather. I fo not know when he died, orwhere he is buried. Another
son, James joined a Tennessee regiment and was killed at the battle of
Chicamauga in the Civil War.
I have written Butchin Virginia, and forwarded your email to him. If
there is a connection, and if he desires, he can contact you. Don't get
your opes up too high, I haven't been able to get the first bit of
information about Benjamin out of him. All I know is that his name is
Ray, and Isaacis his grgrgrandfather
Doyle Chatham
