I'm not really from Itawamba Co., but my Dad was, as was his father, William
Albert Chatham, and his grandfather, George Washington Chatham (1854-1933).
George and his brother, William, were raised by a school teacher, Nathan
"Boon" Foster and his wife, Martha (Chattam) Foster, who appear in the 1860
Census for Tishomingo Co., MS. Martha could be the boys' mother or their
older sister. I hoping to find that definitive link to George's parents.

George, I was so excited to see the name "Josiah Chatham" in your genealogy. I had a great-great grandmother Nancy Chatham who married Thomas Malone. In a census report for Somerset County, I found Nancy and
Thomas living next door to a Josiah Chatham. I think it must have been Nancy's father. I do not know the year of Nancy's birth, but it was early 1800s because her daughter, my great-grandmother was born in
1843. My guess is that Nancy's brother was Josiah F. Chatham and that the older Josiah and Alice were her parents. What an exciting find. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Will write more later.

My Chatham line came from NC. My gr-grandfather Isaac chatham,
according to family legend married a full-blooded Cherokee, and was
disinherited. I do not know his father's name, and am not sure where in
NC. Te first listing I have isin the 1850 Wilson County, TN census,
with 5 children, all by the indian wife, but with a second wife, a
Susan, wife of a neighbor, Pleasant Johnson, a neighbor, who had aso
been a neighbor in NC.
He was a shoemaker, and moved to Nashville, where he died, I do not know
when or where he is buried. His sonWilliam was my grandfather. Another
son was killed fighting with a TN infantry outfit at the battle of
Chicamauga in the Civi War. One daughter married in Nashville. His son
Wiliam was my grandfather. a boilermaker who died in Nashville in 19ll.
I had a temproary contact with a Butch Chatham who I think is in
Hampton, VA, and is the great great grandson of Isaac through another
son.
If ou can make any connection, I shall be glad to furnishg more detail.

'Lo all:
I hope everyone is having a lovely spring so far (ours doesn't know what to
do - one day 20 degrees, the next rain and cold!).
We have an important holiday coming up this weekend, namely Mothers Day (May
11) - not to mention weekends themselves are always nice ;-)
In celebration of our family matriarchs (those known and, as of yet,
unknown), and to welcome all the new subscribers that have joined us during
the past year, I think a roll call is in order.
Now, for those of you who don't know what a roll call is, it is simply this:
subscribers to the list post the surnames they are researching (basically
what you do anyway), but in an abbreviated format.
This is the one time that, generally, you're allowed to get away with lists
of surnames (sans details). Some list admins are pretty strict about roll
calls, with formats on what you should do, and how you should post, etc. I'm
pretty much lax (or lazy, depending on your point of view ;-) on how you
wish to work your roll call entry.
However, I do have one little "rule". Please change the subject line; do not
reply and the leave the subject "re: may roll call". Please! It's not too
much to ask - just one little specification. ;-)
For those of you who hate roll calls (lots of people don't, so you're not
alone), you've been forwarned! Now I'll quit rambling on and let you all get
to it!
Ádh mór! (Cheers! - I'm trying the learn the language of my ancestors - the
Irish ones, anyway...)

I have only been interested (obsessed? ;-) by genealogy for 2 1/2 years, but

I have recently been thinking (now that I'm on a months' holidays, finally!)
of putting up a webpage devoted to the Chatham-L mailing list. It would be
pretty basic, at least at first, containing important list url's and
