Hi Joy:
I tried responding to mcjar(a)mindsping.com but the mail would not go through.
I would like to be able to connect the immigrant family of Nicholas Chatfield and his wife Susan/Susannah Nye. I have a listing of 9 children for this couple and would like to be able to connect them to the Thomas who was b: in 1400's.
Thank you for you time and anything you offer to help me.

Hi Stephen,
My Chatfield line came to US from Kent in 1834.( Brothers John, Nicolaus & Walter) We have a fairly good paper trail back to Thomas (1400's). This has been supported by Chatfield FTDNA project. We match with the Chatfields who came to CT in 1600's.
Please contact me at mcjar(a)mindsping.com
Joy

I have a few Chatfield's who immigrated later than the 1639 brothers.
One, Thomas W. Chatfield, who was b: abt 1816, married Susannah Unknown who was b: abt 1822. Both born in England.
There are 6 known children to this couple, the last three born in New York.
Here is a transcript of the 1860 US Census record.
CENSUS 1860:
RESIDENCE: Utica Ward 4, Oneida, New York; Roll M653_827; Page: 545; Image: 529.
Thomas W Chatfield 43 abt 1817 England Male
Susannah Chatfield 38 abt 1822 England Fem
Jane E Chatfield 21 abt 1839 England Fem
Henry Chatfield 14 abt 1846 England Male
William Chatfield 12 abt 1848 England Male
Ann E Chatfield 06 abt 1854 New York Fem
George W Chatfield 03 abt 1857 New York Male
An additional child, Arthur A. Chatfield, was born abt 1861, also in New York.
Does this sound familiar to what you indicated.

Hi Cheryl,
I have looked back a little myself. Probably not to the extent that you have but I believe that there is a link between my family and the ones from Sussex (sussex and kent being bordering counties). Again we cant be sure if it is the same Chatfield family but I believe ancestors have immigrated to the US. Its fascinating to know that this line is still going strong in the US. I am sure you are far more aware than me on this site but I got a lot of my information from http://genforum.genealogy.com/chatfield/ and this particular comment on the same site http://genforum.genealogy.com/chatfield/messages/335.html comments on a Thomas Chatfield moving to the US in the 1830's.
I realise this is a lot later than when you mentioned but possibly some connection?

Hi Stephen:
I research American Chatfield's who descend from Sussex, England heritage. In 1639 three Chatfield brothers immigrated to Connecticut. Their ancestry dates back to the 1450's and I have American descendants up to the present generations.
There seems to be other countries Chatfields are in, but I couldn't say you are connected to the Sussex branch.

I can see that this post was left 10 years ago but I am a Stephen Chatfield living in Wales UK. Any connections to the same family you think? Born in 1980 in Kent, England.
