Hello All,
I hope you will take advantage of the three-day free access to the 1930 US
Census provided by Ancestry.com. Almost everyone will have a particular
interest in searching this census year -- whether it is for parents and
grandparents, or possibly the first available census which lists yourself!
Sorry I can't include a link to access the 1930 census, but go to the
Ancestry.com page and then follow the instructions given below from the Ancestry
Newsletter and you'll be on your way to locating your family records!
Best of luck,
LaRae, CHATFIELD listmgr.

Free Three-Day Access to the 1930 US Federal Census
The launch of the every-name index marks the completion of the US Federal
Census Collection at Ancestry.com. The massive project took over 6.6 million
hours of labor and 21.9 billion keystrokes to manually enter the census names
into the database. 15,000 rolls of microfilm–thirteen million original census
images–were scanned and transcribed to complete the project.
To celebrate this milestone, Ancestry.com is offering free access to the
1930 US Federal Census for three days. Just visit Ancestry.com and click through
the census tour or click on one of the Census is Complete banners on the
site.
*Act fast. Free access to the 1930 US Census will expire soon. [through July]
The free period starts when you first access it. If you go to the
Ancestry.com homepage, you should see a window open up announcing the free three-day
access and allows you to Start Here. If you bypassed the page and went straight
to Ancestry.com, you can still access the free 1930 census through the
homepage.
In the upper right corner of the homepage, you should see a brown and orange
ad with a green button that says “Dive In.” Click on that and it will take
you through a presentation that you can click through by hitting “Continue.”
On that next page there is a green link to “Search Now.” That will open a
search box where you can search. When you find someone, click on that name
and on the next screen you will see include the index entry and an option (to
the right) to view the actual image.

Eileen,
Thank you so much for your feedback. I was contacted by my grandfather's brother, in Gerogia and he was able to send me a copy of my family tree dating back to 1759. I will try to begin a new search to find anything I can from before 1759 - I would love to find out where my family was before they came to America.
I do appreciate your response!

To find more information on your grandfather John Chatfield you need more information to start with, since there might be many John Chatfields. Finding where he lived with your grandmother and when and where he died, then getting the death certificate (which might have the names of his parents) would be one way to begin.

I am searching for descendant’s of Richard Chatfield (born in 1862, Mile End Old Town) and Ellen Landenberger Chatfield (born 1866 in Stepney). They had four surviving children, Albert (born 1890), Edward (born 1892), Sydney (born 1894), and Harold (born 1896). I know that the last known address of Harold's widow (circa abt. 1963) was Yeovil in Somerset. I am Albert Chatfield’s granddaughter. Albert came to the U.S. via Canada in the early 1920's. Other family names include John Chatfield who married Caroline Constance Jane Barth in 1924, and Richard Chatfield (born 1831) who married Ann Catherine Taylor in 1860. My Chatfields all seem to come from the Mile End area or East London. If this sounds familiar to anyone, I would love to hear from you and exchange info.

Maxine, your posting has intrigued me. I have a picture of a gentleman my mother (a Chatfield) called "Grandad Gee". I had always assumed this was a courtesy title but now I am wondering. My Chatfields are in the south of England so there is probably no connection but you have given me a new branch to climb out on and see what is there. Like you, many mysteries to solve.

Hello Maxine,
I am hot on the trail of the Chatfield/Gee/Davies connection.
I have been getting more an more info in (not enough proof yet) and, with a very few exceptions and mysteries to solve, I'm getting close to definitely connecting your Ellen (Davies) Gee Chatfield to my William Davies, father of my George Davies, and beyond (earlier). Ellen and Ester Gee keep coming up in what I'm finding.
Just thought I'd let you know that the new places I am researching, just in case you haven't checked in them recently: Withington and Lancashire.
Who knows---your Chatfield/Gee line may have some connections in these areas too.
Researching your Ellen is getting me lots of info on my William.
Thanks!!!
Carolyn
