Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I am Ed McCarthy, of Buxton, Maine, and the Washington DC area, USA. My grandmother was Alice Chatfield McCarthy, born in April 1878 in Nutbourne, Pulborough, West Sussex, England. She emigrated with her parents and older brother Charles in 1885; they settled in Newark, New Jersey, where I grew up.
My great grandfather and apparently his father before him ran a pub or "beer house" called The Rising Sun in Nutbourne which still exists (as of 1995). I have traced the line solidly back to Robert Chatfield and Mary Greenfield (or Greenfeild) in the late 18th century. Beyond that, my data is scattered but perhaps indicative. Nineteenth century intermarriages were with Heather, Street, Penfold, and Float (or Flote). I would be pleased to hear of possible connections of any generation.

For January's roll call project, I would like to give you the URL to our
CHATFIELD Message Board, and ask you to gather family information to post to
the board. I'll also include a couple of pointers on how to better utilize
the message boards.

Since the Rootsweb "gateway" system was put into place, posts to the
CHATFIELD Message Board are automatically forwarded to our mailing list. The
system has proven quite successful and use of the boards continues to
increase.
The Message Boards have categories for various types of posts....

As you can see, the more we use the CHATFIELD Message Board, the more
valuable a research source it will become. Post your information directly to
the board, and within moments the post will also appear on our mailing list.
However, PLEASE do not include information on living persons... just not a
great idea in general, and not really pertinent to our search for ancestors.
Also, since posts to the board will be seen by a wider circle of CHATFIELD
family researchers, you may get responses from people who are not on our
mailing list. To be sure everyone sees the resulting discussions, you'll
need to respond directly to the message board....the URL will be in the post.
Continue posting your CHATFIELD material to the message board throughout the
month of January, and lets see if we can make some new connections!
Thanks...take care, all,
LaRae
