I just head that the infamous Australian outlaw, Ned Kelley,
was married to a Chatfield? Can anyone confirm this?

Kim, you say that:

Do you mean before Thomas Chatfield of Ditchling, Sussex, born in the
1450s?

well, i found you fellows, and it said i should
introduce myself and state my interest in this list.
i'm kim s chatfield.. i'm 22, a boy, and i live in
the united states. no particular place in the US.. i
travel around at whimsy. the place i have lived more
than any other place is juneau, alaska. (11 years) my
profession is a chainmaille artist. (like armor, but
i make sculpture, tapestries, baskets and vases..as
well as some more traditional applications.)
i have a cousin who is really into geneology. he's
compiled an inch thick family tree. i find it
entertaining, but i'm not focused enough to do that
sort of research.. and i can barely keep second
cousins and cousins twice removed apart from each
other..
my interest in this list is to locate living
chatfields, preferably my age, and in the states. but
people are people and thusly good.
the reason i am seeking out chatfields is that they
are, at least the ones i know, a rather unique breed
of people.
well, that's enough for now i suppose. good to be
here.
peace
kim

Does anyone know whether Abraham Chatfield from Sussex or Joseph Chatfield
from Warwick who arrived as convicts on the Third Fleet (1791) married and
had children?
Lucretia Chatfield was born about 1772 in Salisbury, CT. Benjamin Chatfield and Lucretia Doud were married about 1770 also in Salisbury. I suspect Lucretia was their daughter but can find no verification or any children listed for Benjamin. Would appreciate any helpful information. Lucretia Chatfield is my 3rd great grandmother. Her husband was James Thompson.
Thanks, Stan Thurber

I have only gone back to the 1500's with the actual Chatfield name. But I have gone back to the 900's through Freelove Woodworth who was married to one of the Chatfields.
Robert -
Chatfields on the Third Fleet? Wonderful! Convict research is most
interesting, mainly because the poor blighters were documented at every step
of the way. Then, too, a lot more research has been expended on convicts
than on the worthy but poorly-documented rank and file immigrants.
Cherish your family convict, if you're lucky enough to have one :0)
Kathy
Hi Kathy
Thanks anyway. I haven't had much luck today - except to find that there
were Chatfields as criminals on the third fleet. I'll have to keep
researching now; either to clear my family name or explain some of the
funny business that my immediate family has been involved in recently :-)
Hope you are well.
regards
Robert Chatfield

Robert,
My Chatfield ancestor who came to Australia was
Ann CHATFIELD b. 1829 Sevenoaks Kent UK.
Father: Richard CHATFIELD Mother: Sarah GOLDSMITH
Ann arrived in Melbourne in October 1854, and married David ARCHER a few
weeks later. So she didn't remain a Chatfield for long - this may not be
much help to you.

Dear All
I would like to make contact with people who have traced the movements of
Chatfields into Australia.
In particular, I am interested in:
1 - The origins of the Chatfield Family name; and,
2 - Whether the Australian Chatfields were derived from the Surrey
Chatfields or the Midlands Chatfields (or both).
Any ideas?
Regards
Robert Chatfield

My Grandfather was George Chatfield son of Joseph Chatfield who was the Son of Edmund Chatfield. We have been looking for documentation that William Sha won no quet and O wan sum are the father and grand father of Edmund. We have the Census showing William as the father of Edmund and living with him. But so far that is as far as we go. When and where did the name Sha won no quet become attached to William. Also is he the same Wiliam C. age 60 that was married Onah orobe sha quay (?) 1-24-1874 . Thanks for any help!

I just looked at the family tree information I have on the Chatfields and noticed that I have Stephen Chatfield as "Rausell" Chatfield's son. (I received this information from a gentleman who has been studying the Chatfields for some time. For some reason, I didn't have the information that Stephen was Josiah's brother. Now I have new information to add to my tree. I'm not sure I replied to your message correctly the last time I attempted to do so. So, I'll repeat again that if you want all of the information I have on the Chatfields, I'll be glad to send it to you if you send me your e-mail address. Mine is ecook(a)tir.com. Thanks for responding. By the way, my line is through Henrietta Lenorah Lockwood (my mother) , through Marshall Chester Lockwood, through Lenora Chatfield, through Daniel Chatfield, through Stephen Chatfield through Rausell (Roswell) Chatfield
I was finally able to find the whole Chatfield family -- thanks to a gentleman who has done 30 years of research. If you would like the information he sent me, I will be glad to send it to you. (I will need your e-mail address -- mine is ecook(a)tir.com). I have been able to go back (through the LDS site) to the 900's.
I am descended from Roswell and Sarah (Sheffield) Chatfield through their son Josiah, who moved to Mundy Twp., Genesee Co., MI with his sister Olive Bentley. Josiah had two daughters by his first marriage (to Sophia Vorce), named Audrice and Sarah (I think). His second marriage to Virtue ( ) also produced two children, Cyrus and Sophia. Cyrus married Clarinda Bartlett, and I believe he had two children; one, Eunice, married a man named Lovejoy. I would like more information on this line especially, if anyone has it. Josiah and Cyrus were prominent men in Mundy Twp.
Sophia Chatfield married Alva Bigelow, son of Jairus and Lucinda (Main) Bigelow, of Avon Co. and Rush Co., NY. Sophia and Alva had only one child, Florence Adelaide Bigelow, who married Lyman Thompson Curtis, who owned a large nursery in Genesee Co. One of his grandchildren or great-grandchildren was the founder of Curtis Flowers in Flint, MI. A daughter, Effie Mae Curtis, married Will Joel Post, and their only child, Gladys Florence Post, was my great-grandmother.
I am very glad to learn of all the Chatfield relatives through Josiah's siblings-- I couldn't find him for a long time (mixed up with the Josiah Chatfield in Lenawee Co.). I would appreciate any information on Roswell's descendants, and especially any information on Josiah's descendants.
