My -great grandmotther, Mary Anne Sarah Stephen,
was born in London in 1831, being the daughter of Richard
Walkden and Emily Chatfield.
She arrived in Australia in 1852 aboard the 'Great Britain'
together with her father and his second wife. During the
voyage, my great grandmother met my great grandfather,
William Ravenscroft Stephen and was married in Melbourne
shortly after.their arrival.
However, I have no information regarding her mother,
Emily Chatfield. I believe, because Richard Walkden
came from Pinner, she may have lived in the Croydon
area of London. Her birth year most probably would be
around 1808, with her death date being between
1831-5. These dates are assumptions only.
I would like to find from which Chatfield family I have descended
and would appreciate any help if anyone has information.
Hi Colleen & Rob,
I do not have a Thomas born 1769. My Thomas was born 1621 and
his father was Henry Chatfield born 1588 in Sussex. He married
Ann Higginson in 1648 and they had many descendants. Thomas
is the brother of George Chatfield who came here in 1639 and they
are immigrants. Maybe your Thomas is a different branch. If you
would like a descendancy listing in a text file, or a gedcom file
which requires genealogy software, I would be glad to upload it to
you. I have 19 generations of Chatfields.
Please let me know,
John Chatfield of Bloomington, Mn.
