dear lind_say
So glad to hear from you. Unfortunately I cannot make any link with any Chater called "Aherne". I wonder if you would be able to take a photo of the picture and the signature and send it to my email address please. There was a famous CHATER artist, but he was more into Indian Army uniforms, I'm in touch with his family, I can ask them if he was ever in Rawlpindi, but I think it unlikely. If you could do a photo I could send it to them and see if it rings any bells.
best wishes
Liz

I have two pencil drawings, one a portrait and another a figure. These were my grandmothers and were passed to me on her death. The artist is called Chater with a first name which looks like Aherne. The date of the portrait titled "The old Kashmiri" is 1938 and the figure sketch is titled "Fishing in Dal Lake (Lithograph. Both have a sticker on the back saying framed by Mohamed Ali Ali Bhoy Ghatila of Rawlpindi & Murree. I wondered if the artist was someone from your family Chater? The sketches are very good - tender and atmospheric. I would be pleased to hear any information on the artist.
