Subject: Chater Family
I tried to view your site as it was listed on the Rootsweb newsletter, but I
was having some difficulty.
While I don't believe any of my Chaters were in India, I was wondering if
you would mind including the ones I do have in your group of unknown
Chaters?
My second great grandmother was a Maria Chater, born in 1826 in Wigginton,
Oxon. She was the daughter of William and Hannah CALCOTT Chater. Maria
married John PRITCHETT in Deddington and their daughter, Ellen, married a
Howard CHEATER (sometimes mistaken for Chater). They married in Chilworth,
HAMP, but moved to Glos before 1900. Their son Douglas married Isabel Ida
Alberta JACKSON, and their daughter Aline is my mom.
William was born in 1797, in Deddington, Oxon, the son of William and Martha
COLES Chater.
William was born 1769 in Fenny Compton, WARK, the son of Henry and Hester
HERBERT Chater.
I found the above information by searching the IGI files of the LDS. I have
additional information on the Calcott and Coles families. I have nothing
additional of Henry or Hester other than they were married in 1765.
I really appreciate your help and wish you all the best on finding your
families.

Subject: surname list
I am interested in the Chater surname list . The family I am researching is
Francis John Talfourd CHATER = Ada Lizzie Tatham TARLTON 11 Sept 1879.
Daughter, Dorothy Phyllis Ada Talfourd CHATER c1881
= Mario Moretti FOGGIA.
Francis and Ada lived in Kensington. Middlesex, London at the time of
Dorothy's birth. Both Francis and Ada died 1910.
Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Erica Speden.
Hi, folks:
This is my first (and perhaps last!) message to the list.
Does anyone else connect to William and Caroline (Causer + vars) Chater or
Chaiter, both b. Aston, Warwicks, around 1826/7? Or to their son Henry, b.
1851 Deritend, Aston, who married Ann Jane Asher?
