Paula,
I have heard of John Burton, Jr. and Sr.; however, I haven't seen any info
more than what you already have. There may be some hope, though, as I've
just begun helping to transcribe the book "Little Otter to Lost River."
This book focuses on the Chastain/eens who moved from VA into IN, but there
are mentions of others going south into the Carolinas, into IL and other
locations. I just received the material, so give a chance to go through it,
and hopefully something will come to light. If it's any consolation, I'm
aware of a few different people who are looking for info on John Burton.
Wish I could help more, but alas it's taken me 20 years or so just to track
my people into IN.
I'll keep an eye out, and if anything shows up, I'll definitely contact you.
Best of wishes in all your endeavors.

Hi Ray, I just saw your posting and wonder if any of these people still
live in St. Maries or Coeur d'Alene? I'm from St. Maries now.

Hey, all. The following is my line:
Kenneth Ray Chastain Jr., b: 7 Apr 1962, St. Maries, ID
Kenneth Ray Chastain, b: 25 Feb 1937, McAlester, OK; m: June 1961, Coeur d’
Alene, ID to Frieda Mae Maschke, b: 18 May 1938, Hamilton, MT
Elige Jahu Chastain, b: 10 Nov 1907, Wewoka, OK; d: 19 Nov 1994, Sulphur,
OK; m: Aug 1932, McAlester, OK to Martha Ann Marshall, b: 22 Dec 1916,
McAlester, OK
Leroy J. Chasteen/ain, b: 20 June 1883, Jasper Township, Dallas County, MO;
d: 1969, Shady Grove, TX; m: Wife #1 Unknown; m: 4 Aug 1906, W?????, OK to
Miranda “Rendy” Jane Moser-Steele, b: 3 Mar 1887, Sedalia, MO
Children (Wife #1): John and Sarah – NO other information discovered
Children (Rendy): Elige, Melvin “Dutch,” Vivian, Veldon, Joseph, Vera,
Dovie and Allie May. Rendy had two children from her previous marriage:
Sherman and Josephine Steele; Josey died in 1905, and Sherman was born in
1905 in OK.
John Chasteen Jr., b: Oct 1853 in Laclede County, MO; d: 1907, McIntosh
County, OK; m: 1874, MO to Laura Hugar/Hugard/Hughart, b: Sept 1858, MO
Children: Henry, Samuel, Ellen, Leroy, Haley, Benjamin, Jane, Andrew,
Jesse, and Sarah Lenna
It is highly likely, yet entirely circumstantial that John’s parents are
William Chasteen/ine/ien/ain, b: Abt. 1824 in KY; d: Abt. 18 Nov 1856 in
Laclede Co, MO; m: 17 Dec 1851, Martin Co, IN to Mahala Pulse. He was
married in 1844 to Rebecca Chastain, I am told the daughter of Fleming
Chastain.
I’m still gathering documentation, or attempting to do so, but it’s been
very difficult. My Grt-Grandfather Leroy sort of disappears from the date
of his birth until 1910 in Wewoka, OK. In 1890, he would’ve only been 7
years old, so it is highly likely he would have appeared on that census for
Dallas County, MO, but alas . . . I’ve found no birth records or notices
for his birth, no marriage record for his parents, in fact, the records for
this family are very sparse.
Anyhew, should any of you have a connection, I’d love to hear from you, and
I’m always willing to share what I have.

My Chasteen line is a brick wall. My John Chasteen came from Lincoln
Co. TN in 1847 to Stoddard Co. MO (in southeast Missouri). . He married
Sarah White daughter of Uriah White & Hannah Gallion. He was murdered
by bushwhackers about 1862 during the Civil War. They had children:
Nelus, Nancy, John Jr. Isiah, Mary, Hannah & Martha.
HI,
This email list was up for adoption and I took the plunge. It would be
great to get this list stirred up and get some new members added. Maybe
we can find some answers we are searching for.
ROLL CALL. Please post your Chasteen family line you are researching.
