Re: [CHASTAIN] CHASTAIN Digest, Vol 2, Issue 14
by Everett, Donna F. RICVAMC
I am trying to find information about my ancestor, Stephen Chastain,
born around 1660's-1670's. His daughter Angell Chastain (born around
1692 Dauphine, France & died after 5/20/1735 Manakintown Goochland, VA))
married Jean Panetier (John Pankey born around 1685 Soubise St. Onge
France & died
7/1717 Manakintown, Goochalnd, VA)
Also looking for information on Judith Chastain (born around 1703 maybe
Henrico Co., VA) daughter of Pierre Chastain. Judith supposedly married
Eitenne Panetier (Stephen Pankey born around 1711/1713 Manakintown, VA)
Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance

My name is Vivian Otis. I am from a Chasteen family. Have been searching
for 10 years to find my graandfather Frank Chasteen born in July 8,1884
in SC. His father was Pinkney. We have no name for his mother listed. It
says he was born in SC,NC. Also his father in Ga. We are not sure the
information is correct because his born date was wrong on the tombstone
due to my grandmother not knowing the correct year. frank had brother
named Grover and sister Roxann. Grover lived in Great Falls SC in 1920
with wife nanci and family.
Frank Chasteen born July 8,1884 in SC.
Allen Pinkney and Martha (WIlliams) Chastain is his parents. They are
listed in union Sc 1900 unplaced Chastain in 1900 SC census you
have.Frank is not with them.
Allen Pickney dad was Allen Chastain born in @1838 in SC. He is in 1860
census for Anderson SC.
I think Stephen Chastain listed in 1840 in Anderson SC may be Allen
Chasteen (born in @ 1838 ) father. The reason is a son is named H A
Chastain whom is 10 years of age. Allen born @ 1838 also named his son H
A Chasteen born in 1860 in Anderson SC My grandfather also named my mom
Allen at birth (changed to Aline) Stephen Chastain himself also had a
brother Stephen F Chastain. They are all from Anderson SC. Let me know
what you think. I am very ,very interested.I paid $1,200.00 for the
research to be done by a professional and part of it is wrong.

The Pink Chastine family shown in Union Cotton Mills, Union
County, SC
in 1900 does appear to be your Frank's family. They had been married 16
years and reported that they had 4 children, all four of whom were still
living, but only three were in the household: J G (probably Grover, age
12); J.C., son, age 10; and Roxy Ann, age 7.
It's possible he is the Frank Chasten enumerated in the 1900 census
in
Winston, Forsyth County, North Carolina. This man said he was born in
January 1879 in South Carolina. He was working as a railroad laborer.
Maybe
he lied about his age to get the job.
The 1910 census of Anderson City, Anderson County, South Carolina
shows
a Frank Chastine, age 26, (b circa 1884 in Georgia) living with his
family
at 63 E. Street. He worked as a laborer in a cotton mill and said he
and
his parents were born in Georgia. He had been married for 7 years to
Nettie, age 24. They had two children: Odo, son, age 5 and Henry, son,
age
2. Both were born in South Carolina.
He appears to be the Frank Chasteen, born July 8, 1884, who filled
out a
WWI draft registration form on September 12, 1918 in Red Springs,
Robeson
County, North Carolina. He reported that he was a farmer working for B
.A.
Edene in Rowland NC and had a wife. He was tall and of medium build
with
brown eyes and hair.
